720 Cellars Pinot noir 06

Winery: 720 Cellars

720 Cellars Cellar Pinot noir 06 is crafted in a top secret location in the foothills of the Cascade Range. From that clandestine site comes an incredible value in Pinot noir, bursting with sweet cherries and fresh raspberries, with high notes of cranberries and bass notes of black berries. Subtle, dried herbs and baking spices slink in on the supple finish. Totally recommended - an Avalon Reserve Pinot Noir Club January selection.

720 Cellars Pinot noir is beautifully integrated due to extended aging in nuetral oak barrels. The 2006 720 has all of the ripeness of the vintage, without sacrificing balance and freshness.

2005 Vintage Tasting Notes

Deliciously juicy black berry and black cherry dressed with dusky cinnamon spice. Blue berry and anise flourishes appear near the finish, then more black cherry lingers on. The 720 Pinot has the balance we look for in value Pinot: super-easy to get into now, great with food, ageable for years.

From the winery: In much the same way as the guy in the Bentley meets the other guy in the Chevy Nova at the stoplight to discuss their needs for mustard, this wine is made of nearly pure Dijon clones (777 & 115) from Temperance Hill and Croft Vineyards. Add to these bright and pleasing vines a splash of Pommard, a dash of Wadenswil, and 20 months of barrel age are you are given a lively wine that is sure to please...and go well with whatever you're eating in the posh dining area of that vintage Bentley or on the dashboard of that Nova (assuming no driving, of course).

The fundamentals of this wine center on the bright acidity, cherry and anise roundness, and rose/ bramble overtones. Each blending component provides a foundation that builds and fills to a well-rounded mouth feel to provide balanced structure that will complement, and not dominate, your favorite cuisine. The extended barrel age provides opportunities for this wine to achieve a sweetness and refinement in the nose. A lovely wine worthy of age, unless you can't wait. 2004 Vintage Tasting Notes

The nose is filled with roses, red cherry and raspberry, pomegranate and subtle cola spice. As one of us put it, "this wine doesn't flirt," meaning those aromas follow through to the flavors. We love the creaminess in the finish-it's just like biting into cr?me brulee with a touch of cardamom. The 720 is an outstanding food wine; match with any of your lighter summer and fall favorites, from grilled fish to pasta salad.

From the small winery in his garage, Chris Heider makes aromatically enticing wines. A great winemaking philosophy and a great guy.
