Review:
The lavish aromas of plum, blackberry, and cinnamon are the first thing you notice. This dark red wine is decadently rich with layers and great focus.
2008 Vintage Tasting Notes
2008 Wine Advocate - The 2008 Alchemist Pinot Noir was sourced from the La Colina Vineyard in Dundee Hills and was aged for 12 months in 25% new oak. Darker in color and with greater density and richness, this is a nicely packed, balanced, pleasure-bent offering that is likely to evolve for 1-2 years. It can be approached now and over the next 6-8 years. It is a very good value. - Jay Miller
"2008 Alchemist Cellars Willamette Valley Pinot Noir ($25): Ryan Harms and his Union Wine Co. are better known for their Kings Ridge value wines. But this new higher tier shows off a classic, juicy Oregon expression with aging potential. There's restraint in the ripe cherry flavors, edged with bright red berry and a subtle musk and nutmeg spice. Remarkable nuance for the price." - Jon Bonne, SF Chronicle
New from the Union Wine Company, making Oregon wines under the labels "Kings Ridge," "Alchemist," and "Underwood Cellars."
Dark color and density, plus meaty, earthy black fruit aromas say "big." Blackberry and black currant, bramble, earth, and licorice flavors gradually diminish as black pepper, leather, and tar finish the wine. Nothing delicate here - a big, earthy, masculine style Pinot noir for those whose tastes run to the wild side. - Jean
From the winery -
Our Pinot Noir is a beautiful dark plumy red to the rim. This intense wine exhibits wild cherry, cassis, and plum aromas. The fruits extend to the mouth, the wine shows concentration and balance all coming together in a beautifully tailored finish.
