Alloro Vineyard has a winemaker with
experience of over 20 Oregon vintages, a dedication to artisan winemaking,
and a
state-of-the-art
vineyard; qualities that make this a winery
to watch.
The 2003 Alloro Pinot noir shows all
the signs of careful vineyard management and skilled winemaking. In
a tough vintage, the
wine delivers big fruit forward flavors balanced by a core of dark
berry fruit, oak, toast, and toasted espresso, boding well for cellaring
2-5 years. 65% of the fruit came from the Alloro Estate Vineyard, 20%
from 33 year old Sunnyside Vineyard in Turner, OR. The wine was aged
in 25% new oak for 11 months. A very impressive entry in the 2003 Oregon
Pinot noir vintage and a winery
with tremendous
promise. 680 cases were produced, The Vineyard and Winery
Alloro, Italian for laurel,
is a small winery that crafts entirely Estate grown Pinot noirs. It is
located on the southwest
slope of the Chehalem Mountains,
north west of Chehalem and Rex Hill Wineries.

Alloro's team includes owner David Nemarnik,
winemaker Don Kautzner (winemaker at Adesheim for 20 years), and vineyard
foreman David Lopez.
Alloro's vineyard is planted to Pinot noir
Dijon Clones 114, 667, and 777, as well as Pommard vines. The vineyard was
planted using vigor inhibiting rootstocks, matched to the Laurelwood soil
type, producing smaller, more intensely flavored berries. The winery was
designed and built as a gravity feed facility to maximize the gentle handling
of grapes that is essential to producing fine Pinot noirs.
 The
vineyard is managed according to LIVE certification practices and the
utmost attention is paid to the maintenance of
the health of the soil and the vineyard.
