Review:

Previous Vintage:

Wine Spectator 91 Points: Fresh and vibrant, with juicy and pure red berry and blueberry flavors set on a light foundation, lingering easily and expressively against refined tannins and acidity. Drink now through 2018. H.S.

The nose shows a hint of caramel, dark red fruits, and a little of that mysterious beetroot thing sometimes found in cool-climate pinot. The mid-palate is round and full but not at all heavy, enlivened by well-integrated acidity. Soft tannins, excellent balance, and a delicious suppleness allow this wine to be enjoyed now and over the next few years. - Andrew Rich

The 2010 vintage has aromas of cherries with floral notes. Modest tannins balanced by good acidity give this wine the structure to age for several years but is ready to enjoy now.

2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

Aromas of dark red fruits with a hint of caramel. Soft tannins and excellent balance make this wine enjoyable now and for the next few years.

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

Big and rich with earth and deep bing cherry notes on the nose and palate. Fruit begins light and then builds on the mid-palette and finishes with a big earthy punch. Well balanced with a slight rosemary and savory element. Tannins are well integrated. Pair with food like beef and roasted tomato kebabs. - Avalon

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

Our flagship Pinot is a selection of the most balanced, complex, and harmonious barrels in the cellar. The red-fruited elegance of the vintage dominates in a wine that, in summer 2010, is just coming into its own and should drink well over the next three to five years. - Andrew

2007 Tanzer - 90 points - Light in body but deep in sweet red and dark berry flavor, with a refreshingly bitter cherry skin quality adding grip. Finishes with a strong echo of cherry and very good clinging persistence.

2006 Vintage Tasting Notes

Wine Spectator Daily Wine Pick (7-25-09): Smooth and generous, this is nicely focused to show its ripe cherry, plum and fresh orange flavors, picking up a spicy note as the long, balanced finish lingers. Drink now through 2016. 1,150 cases made. - Harvey Steiman

2006 Tanzer - 90 points - Vivid red. A powerfully scented bouquet evokes wild strawberry, raspberry, incense and fresh flowers. Light in body but deep in sweet red and dark berry flavor, with a refreshingly bitter cherry skin quality adding grip. Finishes with a strong echo of cherry and very good clinging persistence.

2006 Wine Advocate - 90 points - The 2006 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley is medium ruby-colored with an expressive nose of smoke, spice box, cherry, and raspberry. On the palate it has layers of sweet fruit, a bit of structure, good depth, and a friendly disposition. Drink this tasty effort over the next four years. - Jay Miller

2005 Vintage Tasting Notes

Andrew on the 2005 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley: "I would rank the 2005 vintage right up there with 1999 and 2002 as among my best to date. Cooler weather along with some showers at harvest gave us balanced, elegant wines with sane alcohols (13.5 on average) and good acidity. There is a marvelous purity of fruit, both in the nose and on the palate, and just enough new oak to frame the wine without overwhelming it. Bottled at the beginning of February 2007, the Pinot is still a tad reserved. It will benefit from a further 6 months in bottle and should age well in a cool cellar for 5 to 7 years."

Prior vintage notes

Lovely. We tasted this wine with several $40+ Pinots and it came out on top, for our taste buds.

The nose has creamy red fruit and cherry liqueur mingled with toasted coffee bean and dried rose petal. Flavors are silky and seductive: red cherry, dried red cherry, a tiny hint of cranberry, and a nice acidity that keeps flavors lively The finish features very fine tannins, a medium long finish that reiterates the toasted coffee bean, bittersweet chocolate, red raspberry, dried red cherry, and dried rose petal, with a hint of herbal/spice of white pepper and wild mint.

A perfect mesh of depth of flavor and a lifting fruity acidity the finish has a nice hint of spice, fresh fruit, and fresh white pepper that dance on the palate. It's ready to drink but will lay down for 4-8 years.

Highly recommended.
