The '04 Antica Terra is brimming with fruit and is a little more open than the '03, but with the same Burgundian style of previous Antica Terra vintages. The nose is filled with lavender, dried flowers and cherries, with the hints of forest and Chambord. Layers of cherry-black, red, and tart pie-filled the palate before spicy nutmeg, sweet cedar and more black cherry round out the finish. While there is no shortage of fruit and accessibility, the wine shows great acidity and balance and will reward the patient winelover after time in the cellar. - ml

The winemaker's notes: "Bright ruby red color, a Vosne-Romanee-like amalgamation of black cherry, blueberry, black plum, violet, pepper, and tar flavors. The wine is juicy, bright, and intensely flavored. This is a serious, structured wine with impressive black fruit intensity, excellent grip and thrust".

Tanzer says: "Light red. Lush aromas of blueberry, cocoa powder and espresso. Full and rich, with slightly gamey flavors of dark chocolate, bitter cherry and roasted coffee. A creamy, rich wine whose slightly wild character suggests that it will be best with food. This was the last vintage for co-founder and former winemaker Marty Weber. Maggie Harrison, who spent the last eight years as assistant winemaker at Sine Qua Non, took over with the 2005 vintage. 89"
