Belle Pente Cuvee Contraire Rose 09
The richest of the roses for this season that I've had in spring of 2011. A hint of rose petals in the nose, tons of fresh strawberry scent and flavor, and crisp acidity that is so very refreshing on a hot day. Ultimate summer picnic wine. A blend of Gamay noir and Pinot noir.
From the winery:
Our proprietary rose-style blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay Noir is a perennial favorite, and this 2009 version is one of the best yet! Although traditional rose season is still several months away, this is a remarkably versatile wine. Try it with traditional holiday fare, or use it to solve the meal time conundrum of trying to decide between a red and a white. Or just stock up now and be ready for summer! - the winery
From the Winery: "This our proprietary Rose blend of Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir. The Gamay was fermented as a red wine, and was aged for a few months in older barrels. The Pinot was made as a white wine from juice drained from the vats immediately after de-stemming (a process known as saignee). The two lots were blended together just prior to bottling to create this unique, dry, rose-style wine. The wine has a fresh, spicy aroma with plenty of red fruit that carries through onto the palate. Crisp and clean like a white wine, but with the weight and complexity of a red. Very Limited!"
