Review:
Belle Pente Muscat is made in tiny amounts. It is an Alsatian styled dry Muscat, crisply refreshing, with an intense floral nose that continues to show appealingly in the flavor.
Not-to-be-missed and memorable for fans of French whites.
From the winery -
This is the fourth vintage of our Early Muscat/Muscat Ottonel blend from Mark Huff and Jill Zarnowitz's Stag Hollow Vineyard. Fans of unique, dry, complex aromatic white wines should not miss the opportunity to try this. The exotic wild floral aromatics that are Muscat's "calling card" dominate the nose, and create the expectation among many tasters of sweetness on the palate. But the wine "under-delivers" in the residual sugar department - it is totally dry! An intriguing balance is achieved by the moderate (12.75%) alcohol level, relatively low acidity (4.7 g/L), and complete malolactic fermentation. Enjoy as an aperitif, with raw oysters, or with the classic Alsatian pairing - white asparagus! A rare treat!
2007 Vintage Tasting Notes
From the winery:
This is our third vintage of an Early Muscat/Muscat Ottonel blend from Stag Hollow Vineyard, and we're finally starting to get it dialed in! Pure, wild floral aromatics with a touch of honey are followed by a remarkably substantial palate given it's mere 11.3% alcohol! A great apéritif, delicious with a spicy dish, and gentle enough to enjoy for lunch! A rare treat! - the winery
Brian expresses his thoughts on Muscat: "Ever since visiting Alsace in 1995, we have wanted to make wine from all 4 of the varietals grown in the "Grand Cru" Vineyards. We started with Pinot Gris in 1996, added Riesling in 1998, then Gewurztraminer in 2003, and now Muscat! Last summer our friends Mark and Jill from Stag Hollow approached us about a partnership on their small blocks of Early Muscat and Muscat Ottonel, and we jumped at the opportunity! So here you have it. A bone dry aperitif or table wine (the Alsatians say it goes great with asparagus!) with the intense, crazy, floral Muscat aromatics that defy description. Ready for the asparagus season! "
