Bergstrom Gewurztraminer Hyland Vineyard 09

Bergstrom Gewurztraminer Hyland Vineyard 09 -

The 2009 Gewurztraminer has knockout varietal aromas of roses, potpourri and gingerbread spice-cake. This is a full-bodied white with a generous mouthful of melon and stone fruit flavors, tied together with tremendous floral notes. This wine finishes dry and long and begs for traditional Alsatian and German foods such as choucroute-garnie, other pork and sausage dishes, raclette, fondue, spiced Thai dishes as well as cheese-plates and desserts. - the winery

These old vines perched on the rolling volcanic hillsides outside of McMinnville, as you head west to the coast on Highway 18, are some of the oldest in Oregon and perhaps some of the oldest Gewurztraminer vines in America. And unfortunately, they will not be around forever as they are planted on their own roots (not on rootstock) which makes them National and regional treasures. This wine was a huge customer favorite last year and disappeared quickly.

Less than five barrels made.

Gewurztraminer is one of Alsace’s greatest and most unique and bold varieties that gives way to compelling, rich and full-bodied white wines. Oregon’s examples are few but every bit as compelling as our European counterparts’ wines.
