Bergstrom Willamette Valley "Old Stones" Pinot noir 2010

I'm saving up so I can stock my cellar with the 2010's. Pretty and inviting from the first pour, it shows a purity that has me giddy.

Each vintage of Bergstrom's Old Stones Pinot noir seems to get better, with the 2010 being a total star. Pretty and inviting from the first pour, it shows a purity that has us giddy. Crushed berries aromas waft from the glass and lead into a silky and subtle Pinot. - Andy & Marcus

2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

In past vintages, this was known as their "Willamette Valley" Pinot noir.

This is better than the 2008. Okay, I had to get that out of the way and I suppose I should elaborate on why.

I think of Bergstrom's Willamette Valley (Old Stones) as a wine to pop (you have to use a cork screw, since they did away with the screw top), pour, then pour some more. You can't beat the immediate gratification you get from the 09. It's strong, red-fruited persona charges out of the glass with ripe cherries, which are met by a sweet blackberry boost near the end. A little accent of orange, baking spice and flowers lift the lengthy finish. Done solely in large oak cask (not regular barrels) to preserve the purity - nice call Josh. - Marcus

2009 Wine Spectator - 91 points - Lithe, with a welcome sense of transparency to the cherry, caramel and sandalwood flavors, mingling gracefully on the long, appealing finish. Best from 2013 through 2019. - H.S.

From the winery - We have renamed our "Willamette Valley" Pinot Noir "Old Stones" to give it a personality & an identity that is worth seeking out. It is a barrel selection from our best non-estate sites that show more accessible texture & lower level of tannin & acidity which benefit from early consumption.

The 2009 Old Stones Pinot Noir is a lavish mouthful of red fruits reminiscent of a berry pie with cinnamon & vanilla spices, a sweet pie crust type of flavor that is folded in amongst the waves of ripe & beautifully textured red cherry & raspberry fruit flavors. This is a joyride of a wine & will deliver immediate pleasure & drink well for the next 1-3 years. - the winery

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

Inviting aromas of black cherry, clove, and vanilla cream lead into a palate full of juicy, structured cherries and berries. Mouthwatering dark raspberries and baking spices hang on, reminding you to have another sip. A commendable value from one of Oregon's highest-rated wineries, the 08 Willamette Valley will age nicely for 3-5 years, if you can wait that long! - Marcus

It's been several years since Bergstrom made a Willamette Valley Pinot noir, and even better, it's made from Bergstrom Estate and Shea Vineyard fruit! It's a wine to grab quick - within a few weeks, it'll be gone gone gone.

A unique blend of estate fruit and fruit from the Shea Vineyard. With a dark ruby color, the 2008 Willamette Valley has enticing aromatics of dark red cherries and raspberries with toasty oak notes and a plethora of sweet baking spices like clove and cinnamon and vanilla. The wine is a medium bodied Pinot Noir with generous texture and copious amounts of sweet red fruits, earth and spice notes on the palate. - the winery
