This is a wine for the ages that will drink well for twenty years if aged properly. The perfumed sweetness of the diverse and complex aromas is intoxicatingly delicious and although this wine is lacking the meat and smokehouse aromas that are hallmark of this great site in past vintages, I believe that they will develop with time in the bottle as this wine is currently very youthful and taught. The incense and perfume in the nose appear again on the palate and flavors of wild cane berries and strawberry, rhubarb pie. The finish is textural and layered with the classic Willakenzie soil gravelly tannic backbone and juicy ripe acids which will ensure a great longevity for this wine. - Josh Bergstrom

If you haven't heard how good the 2010 vintage is, you will! It is a virtual guarantee that Bergstrom's Shea 2010 will be one of the highest rated wines of the vintage. Electric aromas of bright cherries, allspice, sweet earth and toasty oak. The palate is expansive, with rich fruit and succulent acidity in harmony. This broader shouldered Pinot has an elegant, refined side: like a linebacker in an Armani suit. Bergstrom purchases more fruit from Shea Vineyard than any other winery. I recommend cellaring for three years, and up to ten. - Marcus
2010 Tanzer - 93+ points - "Vivid ruby. Sexy, oak-spiced aromas of black raspberry, cherry and cola, with smoke and Asian spice accents building with air. Sappy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering intense red and dark berry preserve flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Shows sneaky power on the smoky finish, leaving spice, vanilla and candied lavender notes behind. Give this youthful wine at least another couple years of bottle age".
The 2010 Bergstrom Wines Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir is a bright red ruby in the glass. The wine possesses electric aromas of bright ripe cherry fruit, sweet baking spices, sweet purple candies, earth and toasty oak tones. This wine, as always, has a great mouth feel with a defined richness and succulence to accompany spicy, sweet fruit flavors that seem almost candy-like. This may be the most elegant Pinot Noir that we have ever crafted without giving up the sheer power that makes this vineyard site so special. Drink 2012 – 2020+.
The 2010 wines could quite possibly eclipse the 2008 vintage for overall beauty and elegance (as the 2008 wines are much more structured and powerful), but we have not seen a vintage so small in production since 1998 or 1994. The average yields across 100 acres of land at Bergström Wines turned out to be a meager but beautifully ripe 0.9 tons per acre. These 2010 wines, both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, will drink wonderfully upon release and will age very well (10-15 years) if well cellared. - Josh Bergstrom

If you like Shea Vineyard Pinots, stop reading now and proceed directly to ordering. If you need further encouragement or are seeking amusement in your day, here goes: like Maverick in Top Gun, Bergstrom's Shea 09 flies by the seat of its pants, screaming out of the glass and spilling your coffee as it buzzes the tower that is your normal wine world. Gutsy, with bravado, it is has the kind of balls-out fruit and richness that does a 4G inverted dive (with a MiG no less!) while still the having the classiness of a Pinot.
Seriously, fans of bigger-style Pinots should not miss the 09 Shea. I highly recommend it. - Marcus
2009 Wine Advocate - 93 points - The 2009 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard (Bergstrom is Shea's largest client taking about 10% of the production) sports aromas of exotic spices, sandalwood, floral aromas, black cherry, and plum. This sets the stage for a rich yet elegant Pinot Noir that displays elegance and class. 2009 Tanzer - 93 points - Opaque ruby. A flamboyant bouquet displays dark berry preserves, cola, potpourri and sandalwood, with a strong spicy quality and a touch of vanilla. Lush and expansive on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and mulberry flavors given spine and lift by tangy acidity. 2008 Vintage Tasting Notes
Bergstrom's Shea 08 delivers everything you want from the famed Shea Vineyard: a big hit of sweet and luscious fruit partnered with a beefy frame. Loads of red cherries bookend the 08, with ripe blackberries providing extra oomph. Incense, sweet violets, exotic spices, and toast are interwoven. 2008 Wine Advocate - 94 points - The 2008 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard (Josh Bergstrom is Dick Shea's largest client although not all the wine goes into the Shea bottling) is medium ruby-colored with more aromatic complexity than the preceding wines. Sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, rose petal, cherry, and raspberry scents lead to a medium to full-bodied (14.3% alcohol), ripe, structured wine with layers of fruit, outstanding grip and volume, and several years of aging potential. This packed offering merits 3-4 years of cellaring and will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023, perhaps longer. - Jay Miller
The 2008 Shea Vineyard from Bergstrom is a deep, dark, black-ruby colored wine with a HUGE nose of Shea Vineyard terroir! Big ripe dark fruits of blackberry and cherry are intermingled with tar, dark roasted coffee, tobacco, sweet spices of cinnamon and loamy earth framed by oaky lusciousness. The wine has enormous power with mouth-filling texture. This is 110% Shea at its best. The wine concludes with big, decadent , luscious fruit and silky tannins that melt away to showcase a long spicy mineral-laden finish. - Josh Bergstrom
This is Bergstrom's sixth vintage from the mighty Shea Vineyard. We have invested heavily over the years in this site and Mr. Dick Shea and his family have been kind to oblige our winery with 10% of the entire vineyard!
Bergstrom has one of the largest controlling portions of this great vineyard with five separate clonal blocks of Pinot Noir totaling 13.5 acres!
Once again, this bottling only represents the best selection of barrels from this entire lot, representing only 30%, chosen to be bottled under the Bergstrom single vineyard label. - the Winery
2007 Vintage Tasting Notes
The Shea Vineyard Pommard Block is reminiscent of a young Barbaresco with its aromas of dried roses, cedar, leather, pipe tobacco and bright red fruits wrapped in a spicy incense. The wine is tight upon entry and packed with red fruit (currant, lingonberry, red cherry) flavors which gives way to a good broad mouthfeel and long lingering spicy flavors that are wrapped in a firm frame of acidity and fine-grained tannins. This wine should be drunk between 2012 and 2018.
2007 Wine Advocate 93 Points - The 2007 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard was sourced from multiple sites within this large property. Bergstrom takes 14 acres (approximately 10%) of Shea's production from which he produces his "red meat and cheese Pinot". Aromas of sandalwood, spice box, violets, black cherry, and black raspberry lead to a structured, ripe, layered Pinot with outstanding depth, balance, and length. The succulent flavors are about as hedonistic as it gets in this vintage. Give it 2-3 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2012 to 2020. - Jay Miller
Dark ruby in color, this wine is extremely mineral in the nose with lots of spice and earth, lush dark fruits as well as some toasty oak spice character to accent. The mouthfeel is focused and rich at the same time with very dark red fruits showing up again. This wine has a great purity to it with nice acid and tannin that will make this one of the longest lived Shea Vineyard Pinot Noirs that Bergström has made to date. 2006 Vintage Tasting Notes
The mighty Shea Vineyard is divided into two hillsides which stand like islands alone in the forested hillsides between Yamhill and Newberg. This 135 acre vineyard site is perhaps one of the best known Oregon vineyard sites to wine consumers from around the United States and beyond due to the consistent high quality of ripe fruit, precise farming practices and the numerous "blue-chip" Oregon and California wineries making wine from this terroir. - the winery
Bergstrom now has 7 acres under contract with Dick Shea and we are pleased to announce the release of our 2004 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir which hails from two exquisitely placed blocks on the East hill; block 5 and the Oak Block.
Both blocks are harvested separately, fermented with their own native yeast and bacteria strains and aged in 100% new French oak (Francois Freres, Meyrieux, and Sirugue coopers) for 11 months before being assembled in tank just prior to bottling.
The Shea vineyard, as made by Josh, is a deep and dark effort with opaque purple and black cherry colors. Aromas of griotte cherries, black raspberries, decadent baking spices, and a nice dollop of creamy toasty oak are accompanied by a large and suave mouthfeel which is lifted by great acidity and sound structure for further ageing. This Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir will please now but continue to age well for at least a decade. One of Josh's favorites of the year.
From the winery: "From Block Five high up on the east hills of Shea Vineyard ( Dijon 777 clone) and the Oak Block down below on the same hill ( Dijon 115 clone) we have crafted another great vintage of Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir. Shea Vineyard is a 135 acre vineyard located just 2 miles west of Bergstrom Winery and is named after Dick Shea who sells fruits to both Oregon and California wineries as well as crafting his own label. Bergstrom Winery is proud to have 8 acres of Shea Vineyard under long term contract and through strict farming and low yields annually (1.5 tons per acre) and careful fermentation techniques we are able to create a wine with intense spice and fruit on the nose with an enormous and lush attack of fruit in the mouth. This wine will drink very well upon release and should age well for the medium term. 400 cases produced."

With an intense black cherry robe, this wine's bouquet is captivating, showing off the blackberry, black currant, dark cherry and fragrant spices. This wine will do very well in both the near and long-term.
Dick Shea planted his 135 acre vineyard in the 1980's and quickly garnered a reputation for having one of Oregon's best known and loved vineyard sites. His vineyard's name has graced the labels of some of our best and brightest colleagues for the past decade! The 2003 is the first ever Shea Vineyard by Bergstrom Wines, and we are very happy with the results. A mixture of Willakenzie Soils, Dijon clones 777 and 115 from two separate blocks in the vineyard, intelligent farming and very low yields has produced a wine of incredible richness and soft power. This wine is a real crowd pleaser!
From five beautifully situated acres within the Shea Vineyard comes our first ever Shea Vineyard Designate Pinot Noir. With an intense black cherry robe, this wine's bouquet is intoxicating, showing off the blackberry, black currant, dark cherry and spices the Willakenzie soils are known for. The mouthfeel displays an unbelievable dichotomy of overripe and fresh fruit flavors bursting with intensity and leading to an enormous silky finish that lasts and lasts.
