Bergstrom Sigrid Chardonnay 2011

Wine Enthusiast 95 Points: - Bergstrom’s Sigrid is one of the finest Chardonnays made in Oregon. Racy and refined, it shows Burgundian finesse, toast and acidity. As in other top tier wines from the Northwest, the fruit has a certain vibrancy that shouts “New World.” Peach, apple and pear flavors abound.

Aromas of orange blossom, ginger, saffron, and lemon pound cake are followed by fresh fruit flavors of lemon, tangerine and lime. Rich, layered, intense. Cellar for up to 12 years. Sigrid is Bergstrom's top of the line Chardonnay, a few barrels selected as the best of the vintage. It is named for the owner's Swedish grandmother. First vintage was 2006.

2010 Vintage

2010 Wine Advocate - 91 points - Bergstrom made Chardonnay in 2004 and 2005 from fruit that the Lett’s agreed to sell – a first – and that served as the catalyst for the project represented by their 2010 Chardonnay Sigrid, which was assembled from the small amounts of Chardonnay they now have in each of their source vineyards (including the two under contract).

qScents of peony, honeysuckle, and heliotrope really turn the head, then reappear in seemingly liquid form on a creamy, voluminous (14.1% alcohol) palate that manages to preserve a luscious Persian melon and white peach fruit. This lush, long Chardonnay may well gain further complexity and a sense of dynamic over the next half dozen or so years in bottle. Only 20% of the barrels here, incidentally, were new – and even these were chosen for their discretion. “Recently,” notes Bergstrom echoing comments by other vintners as well as my own observations, “you have a bunch of wineries focused on bringing back a quality Chardonnay in the Willamette Valley, a Chardonnay that has minerality, has texture, has fruit. And we’re trying to be one of the lead flag-bearers in that Oregon Chardonnay movement.” - David Schildknecht

2009 Wine Advocate - 94 points - ..the 2009 Chardonnay Sigrid which is a selection of the top 10 barrels in the cellar out of 100. Complex mineral, pear, hazelnut, and white peach aromas inform the nose of a rich, nicely proportioned Chardonnay. In the glass tropical and butterscotch flavors emerge buttressed by a firm acid structure leading to a lengthy, pure finish. It can be approached now but has the material to evolve for 1-2 years and drink well for another 6-7. - Jay Miller

Classically structured like our 2008 Sigrid but with more ample proportions that will allow for accessibility in the short-term and a promising future for those precious bottles that are cellared carefully.....

Aromas of honeysuckle, brioche, lime blossom, fresh-cream and pear with a kiss of almond entice the palate as the wine is swirled in the glass. The attack is generous and strikes a balance between full-bodied /ripe and classically structured chardonnay and lithe floral expression framed with juicy, mouth-watering acids, and an intense Oregon minerality.

This is the first vintage that almost 80% of the fruit sourced for this very special wine was estate grown - 68% de Lancellotti and 10% Le Pre du Col. Only 450 six packs of this wine were made. - the winery

Limited batch of the best Chardonnay from Bergstrom. Rich and pure, with a beautiful texture and acidity. Pear, hazelnut, lemon zest and delicate white flower melds with lighter tropical fruit elements. Fantastic Oregon Chardonnay.
