New Wine Releases for December

Avalon Wine

Avalon Wine

With the frenzy of December, it's easy for world-class wines to get lost in the crowd. Some of the Northwest's best wines are being released right now - we don't want you to miss them. We've selected our favorite new wines, from value Pinot to old vine Cabernet to sparkling. These wines are a lot more fun than another trip to the mall, and they taste better too!

Avalon Wine

Et Fille
Pinot noir Willamette Valley 08
$23.95/$21.55 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

(Only released yesterday!) The Et Fille Willamette Valley Pinot noir 08 is silky and generous with a mesmerizing perfume of huckleberry, nutmeg and cinnamon. Silky and generous throughout, the sweet and juicy dark fruits come together with savory dried thyme and subtle toast. Yum! By far the best Willamette Valley bottling from Et Fille, and a super-value in Pinot. A blend of all eight vineyards that Et Fille sources from, the 2008 includes the entire three barrels of 2008 Palmer Creek. - Marcus

Avalon Wine

Haden Fig
Pinot noir 08
$19.95/$17.95 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

We are totally stoked about the new Oregon winery, Haden Fig. 2008 Oregon fruit, spectacular value, immediately drinkable, hip labels - what more can you ask for? There's even a bonus: the Haden Fig wines were made with the guidance of Russ Raney at Evesham Wood, one of Oregon's great artisan winemakers.

-

A very complete wine with gobs of juicy dark fruit - blackberry, black currant, licorice, soft sage and floral perfume - accented by by sweet cherries and earth. A remarkably long finish, great backbone and amazing value. Trust us - you want a case of this. - Marcus

Amalie Robert
Viognier 08 $29.95/26.96 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

ONLY 17 CASES MADE!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Avalon Wine

Be still my heart - this is a northwest Viognier that approaches the ephemeral beauty that is Condrieu. (Condrieu is a village in France that produces the worlds best Viognier.)

The best Viognier contains complex, delicate, yet intense scents and flavors, defying simple description. Just when you think you can describe what you're tasting, the flavors evolve into something else. The Amalie Robert Viognier has this quality - it evolves and changes from first scent to the end of its long finish.

First impression? Intensity. In both the scent and flavor, beautiful, layered white flowers, anise, five spice, citrus and creamy stone fruit prevail. We love the acidity, lifting the silky, creamy fruit with fresh citrus and minerals.

Listening to Dena and Ernie talking about this wine, it's amazing that any of it gets to market. Ernie would rather keep it all for themselves. We're glad they've released a miniscule ten cases. Maybe scarcity adds to the cachet, but I'll remember this Viognier as one of my highlights of 2009. - Jean

Capitello
Brut Oregon NV
$25.95/$23.36 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

Ray made a few cases of sparkling wine for the holidays- mostly for family and friends. It's strictly handcrafted - lovingly riddled and labeled, bottle by bottle.

Wine Spectator 91 points: "Soft and creamy, this is fragrant with toasty pear and lime notes and light on its feet, finishing with a deft balance of fruit and other flavors. Drink now. 460 cases made." -HS

Owen Roe Single Vineyard Pinot noirs
Lenne Vineyard 08
Kalita Vineyard 08
Merriman Vineyard 08
Pinot noirs 08
Each, $49.95/$44.95

Three very limited single vineyard Pinots

Less than 100 cases of each made

Owen Roe made tiny amounts of three single vineyard Pinot noirs in 2008. Each wine is quite different from the others.

In the Lenne Vineyard Pinot 08, seductively ripe dark berries mesh with morel mushroom and lively spiciness.

The Kalita Vineyard Pinot 08 is very fragrant with dark fruit notes, silky textures and a spicy finish.

The Merriman Pinot 08 is the darkest, biggest of the three. It has distinctive dark coffee notes, rich plum flavors and complex spices.

Dusky Goose
Dundee Hills Pinot noir 07 $58.95

Rare, limited Pinot - a highlight of any vintage

Avalon Wine

Balanced and beautiful. A rich and graceful perfume of raspberry, rose, cherry, spice box and raspberry tea introduces the superbly layered Dusky Goose 07.

-

Replete with sweet, succulent fruit, the palate fans out with dark dried cherry, raspberries and fresh cream, with hints of darker berries. Full and round, silky and ripe, the Dusky finishes with its classic truffle note, caramel, mixed berries and a touch of dried thyme.

The Dusky 07 has a long life ahead of it - our first bottle was open for five days and continued changing, staying fresh through the last sip. This is a highlight of the vintage. - Marcus

Dominio IV
Technicolor Bat
Tempranillo/Syrah 07
$19.85/$17.87 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

See all Dominio Wines

The 2007 Technicolor Bat is predominantly Tempranillo, with a bit of Syrah adding black fruit flavors. It is very full bodied. It's a fleshy, full bodied red with black plum, cassis, dusty cocoa, anise, and smoked meat flavors. Have this wine with BIG meats. Amazing at $20. - Jean

Avalon Wine

Dominio IV
Spellbound Syrah/Tempranillo 07
$19.85/$17.87 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

See all Dominio IV Wines

The Spellbound 07 is predominantly Syrah. It has the classic characteristics of Washington Syrah - fleshy black cherry and soft toast. The wine is rounded and full bodied. What makes this wine so satisfying and special is the Tempranillo in the blend. There's a thread of dark, dusty chocolate and structured, spicy tannins from the Tempranillo that elevates the wine from simple to fascinating. Serve this wine with spiced chicken or lamb. - Jean

Avalon Wine

Owen Roe
1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon 07
$71.95/$64.75 by the case

(mixed cases OK)

See all Owen Roe Wines

Fewer than 200 cases of the 1973 Block were made, and we predict they will sell out in a few weeks at most. This is one of the best Cabs I've ever had from Washington State.

Owen Roe 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 07 is the first release of the wine. It is awesome, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon expressed in the varietal's purest, finest form.
Its mouthwatering bouquet of ripe blackberry, cedar, truffle, saddle leather, cocoa, pencil lead, and sweet tobacco bursts from the glass.

Sumptuous and silky textured, structured layers of blackberry and cassis explode in the mouth. Black licorice, bittersweet cocoa, dried flowers, and a hint of eucalyptus adding depth and weight. A 30+ second finish of red plum and cherry, blackberry jam, and smoke adds to its power and breadth. A gorgeous wine, though a bit tightly wound, decant if drinking now. We suggest cellaring for 2-3 years before drinking, and holding for up to 15. - Jean
