Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir Deux Vert Vyd Cuvee Katri 09

Achieves the winemaker's goal of producing a wine with fine structure and perfumed aromas. Dark ruby in color, scents of lavender and violets mix with a hint of dust. Big earthy blackberry and black currant flavors finish with structured firm tannins. This is a wine to cellar or to decant before serving now.

The Biggio Hamina Deux Vert Vineyard Pinot noir 07 was fermented with 72% whole clusters. It was aged in 38% new oak. The vines average 14 years of age, and are planted on Willakenzie soil. The vineyard is adjacent to Shea Vineyard and Willakenzie Winery.

2009 Wine Advocate - 92 points - The 2009 Pinot Noir Cuvee Katri Deux Vert Vineyard consists of a single barrel made with 82% whole clusters and aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak. It reveals darker fruit than the previous wines as well as more structure. It also reveals a hint of dried herbs on the palate that adds another note of complexity. With a bit of underlying structure, it is one of the rare 2009s with some aging potential. It can be approached now but will drink well through 2017, perhaps longer.

Todd Hamina bottles all of his wines in screw-cap without fining or filtration. He says of the 2009 vintage, - They are prettier than I anticipated, forward, and restaurant friendly. - Jay Miller

Biggio Hamina's Todd Hamina moved to Oregon in 1996 and took a job as a vineyard worker for Archery Summit. He worked in various jobs at Elk Cove, Patton Valley, and Momtazi wineries before striking out on his own in 2007. Todd draws inspiration from the winemaking methods of Burgundy and Alsace. He produces an ambitious range of whites and reds.

Todd describes his winemaking style: "I want to make wines with fine structure, lovely perfumed aromas, and viscous density. They won't be shy, but at the same time they should not hit you over the head with a club. My goal has always been to make subtle, supple and satisfying wines".
