The Athena showcases the bigger, darker side of Boedecker Cellars Pinots. A little shy upfront, with toasty baking spice and cola hints moving to dark, dried cherries and blackberries. Appealing nuances of tea and cocoa appear on the lengthy finish with more prominent tannins. Based on our experience with the 2004, we expect the Athena will develop nicely over the next several months.
WINE SPECTATOR 91 POINTS
"Lithe and appealing for its grace and suppleness, showing cherry and tobacco flavors and hinting at hot stone as the finish lingers against silky tannins.
Previoous vintage 2004 notes: Athena showcases the deep, rich side of Oregon Pinot Noir. Dijon clone fruit from Anderson Family, Momtazi, Cherry Grove, and Justice vineyards is blended to create a big, plush wine.
Northwest Palate says: "Aromas of cherries and herbs may be a touch sharp, bt in the mouth that quality adds a sense of wildness to the ripe black cherry flavors. Accents of graham toast and dusty tannins are noticeable, but the ripe fruit trumps all in the juicy finish. A youthful and slightly edgy Pinot that would stand up well to a hearty pot roast."
