Broadley Vineyards Marcile Lorraine Pinot noir 09

Jam-packed with awesomeness. Structured and pretty, this old-vine, South Willamette Valley stunner is filled with sweet black fruit and fresh acidity. Highly recommended.

A juicy bramble berry fruit and dried herbal nose, as well as touches of smoky wood, announce this wine with force. Expansive on the tongue and big in almost every dimension, with lots of sweet-tart dark raspberry and black cherry fruit at the center, and distinct elements of leather, tobacco, licorice, sassafras and - interestingly - violets rounding out the whole. The finish is also big with tannins, fruit, and length, and seems to end with a note of blueberry and black pepper.- the winery

The Marcile Lorraine wines are named after Craig's mother. They always come from 2 acres located at the top of our estate vineyard, above our Claudia's Choice blocks at around 600-ft. A blend of older Pommard and Wadensvil clones planted in 1983 on a lyre trellis. Usually harvested last, the Marcile Lorraine grapes are partially destemmed and then fermented in 600 gallon open top French oak fermenters. These wines are aged in tight grained new French oak for 12 months, and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Marcile Lorraine is produced each year from the same distinctive block of old vine Pinot noir, we use a cooler fermentation, tighter-grained wood, and low toast barrels. The result is a big, jammy, spicy, wine with plenty of up-front dark fruit character - the kind of wine that lots of people love!

Tasting Notes for 2004 Vintage:

An Avalon reserve Pinot noir Club Selection, a very limited wine with world class complexity, aromatics, and flavor. Craig and Morgan Broadley (father and son) make richly Burgundian Pinot noirs, wines that appeal to experienced wine collectors who know the real thing when they find it.

The Broadley Vineyards Marcile Lorraine Pinot noir 04 shows great fruit concentration, perfect balance, and a healthier level of refreshing acidity than was possible in the warm 2002 and 2003 vintages. The cooler climate let Craig and Morgan do what they do best- make an ageable, Burgundian style Pinot noir with a strong dash of Broadley's Estate Vineyard terroir and the extra mouth texture and complexity gained from whole cluster and wood fermenter processing.

Broadley's Marcile Lorraine Pinot noir is named after Craig's mother.
