"Oregon's Secret Pinot noir"
Bruno Pinot noir 07 is made by Russ Raney (Evesham Wood) at his winery for his Oregon distributor and the Oregon market. It's an outstanding value that blends freshness, bright acidity, and pure fruit.
Lovers of Burgundian-style reds and whites can attest to the really good wine coming out of Evesham Wood Winery. Their Pinots won't knock you over; instead, they'll keep you upright, drinking with deep concentration in order to decipher each nuance the wine has to offer. These wines pair well with food yet drink superbly all on their own.
This is a young Pinot, and could use a bit of time decanted or cellared at least a few weeks before opening. That said, the nose is all about bright raspberry and red cherry fruit, and the flavors follow up with more sweet red cherry and red raspberry flavors. There's a hint of pie spice, a hint of smoke, and just a lot of pleasant, easy drinking, fresh red fruit flavors. The finish is long and the tannins are silky and unobtrusive. Forsummer sipping, when an approachable red with a bit less intensity and more refreshing flavors is appealing, this is a great deal.
The wine is sourced from several vineyards in the Salem, Oregon area, near Evesham Wood’s winery. Evesham Wood is one of those wineries in Oregon that sells out so fast, most people never hear about it. It's the unique combination of superb wines and the most modest prices in Oregon that make them a cult favorite.
The 2007 Bruno is far superior to its 2006 predecessor, and will age nicely over the next 2-4 years. One of the first 2007 Pinot noirs, this little wine shows what those in the know are whistering around the Willamette Valley- 2007 is going to be a super star vintage.
