Ca del Baio Barbaresco Marcarini 06
Brand new 2006 vintage shipping first week of June!
Previous vintage tasting notes: Ca del Baio Barbaresco Marcarini 05 - Seductive aromas of gingerbread, cherries, sweet rose petal, and orange zest. Very expressive for a young Barbaresco, with a generously textured and velvety mid-palate of black cherry and blueberry. A kiss of oak and plenty of licorice carries through the finish, with fine tannins. This bottling shines now with decating, but will be ideal with 4 plus years in the cellar.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92 points:
"The 2005 Barbaresco Marcarini reveals a darker profile than the Valgrande. A large scaled, generous Barbaresco, it possesses attractive dark fruit, menthol and spices with tons of plumpness and density. Anticipated maturity: 2010 - 2019.
Its great to see Ca del Baio and proprietor Giulio Grasso follow up their highly successful 2004s with this set of wines".

2004 Vintage Tasting Notes
Robert Parker Wine Advocate 92 Points
"Parker says: "The estate's 2004 Barbaresco Marcarini, from a vineyard in Treiso, offers a distinctly more masculine personality in its expression of dark fruit, spices, menthol and minerals. A tightly coiled, structured Barbaresco, it will require another year or two in bottle before offering its most rewarding drinking. It is another strong effort from Ca' del Baio. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. Suggested retail $56." Exceptionally good price because this wine is directly imported to Oregon.
Gambero Rosso says: "Marcarini has lenghty development and fairly explodes with fruit, its fine balance and elegance making it already quite likeable."
Wine Advocate says of the 2004 Ca del Baio wines: "These 2004 Barbarescos are by far the finest wines I have tasted from Ca del Baio. Hopefully they represent a level of quality the estate will be able to maintain going forward because the wines are terrific. Ca del Baio is located in Treiso, but has holdings across the Barbaresco zone, including a plot in the prestigious Asili vineyard. The estate favors a soft, fruit-driven style of Barbaresco that seems best suited to mid-term drinking."
