Champoux

Washington's Best Vineyard

Andrew Will

Champoux
Red Wine 07

Soos Creek

Champoux 07
Cabernet Sauvignon

Sineann

Champoux Merlot & Cabernet Franc 08

Washington State has three Robert Parker rated 100 point wines -- Quilceda Creek Cabs -- all made from Champoux Vineyard fruit. Champoux Vineyard wines command premium ratings and premium prices. Andrew Will's Champoux Red 06 tops our list for quality and value.

Quilceda's Cab is $100+

Andrew Will Champoux is $53.95 this month
in a case of any 12 wines

While Andrew Will is synonymous with the best of Washington wine, Soos Creek flies under the radar, turning grapes into purple gold. From the same vineyard as Andrew Will's Champoux and Sorella Reds comes this indie-sensational Champoux Cab.

Sineann attracts loyal followers who love his massive, over-the-top, full-bodied red wines. It is hard to imagine a bigger Washington Red than his Champoux Vineyard wines. And if these wines are representative of the 2008 vintage, we can hardly wait.

A truly epic wine. While the blend changed in 07, the luscious nature of the wine did not.

Heady aromas immediately ooze from the glass - crushed red and black fruits intertwine with baking spices and you're hooked. A supple wash of red berries, black cherry, sweet blueberry and ribbon of black currant persuades your palate. With decanting, the bottom notes and finish of the 07 Champoux flourishes and fattens, providing dark chocolate-covered cherry accents that are sensational.

The 2007 Champoux is ultra-polished while maintaining the structure that Andrew Will wines are famous for. - Marcus

From the same vineyard that makes Quilceda Creek Cab and Andrew Will Sorella comes this indie-sensational Champoux Cab. Delivering lipsmacking, balanced, age-worthy Cab for $36 isn't easy, but Soos Creek nails it. To me, the hallmark of Champoux Cabernet is the big, beautiful black cherry core. Soos Creek's Cab adds sweet blueberry and blackberry with vanilla mocha and dried herbs. Supple and totally delicious. -Marcus

Dark, rich (to the point of voluptuous), powerful. This is what Merlot can be.

Andrew ages this wine in American oak, and the characteristic chocolate and smoky vanilla notes show in aroma and flavor. Pair with ribs or burgers.

Mesalliance is a Merlot dominated blend with Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. Andrew named it Mesalliance because he felt, back in 1997 when he first created this wine, that Merlot was sort of a second tier grape. He's changed his opinion of Merlot but kept the cool name.

At a recent tasting of many of Oregon's best Pinot noirs, this wine was a standout, at any price.

The aromas are focused with creamy notes of raspberry and cherry fruit. The same fruit is apparent in the mouth, with a bright, fresh edge to the cherry and black raspberry flavors. There is also a nice sweetness to the fruit, and hints of dried herbs, a touch of minerality, and notes of cedar that add depth and complexity.

A bit above the price point for this email but so good it must be mentioned is the Broadley Estate Reserve Pinot noir $37.95/$34.16. Of Broadley's 31 vintages, Craig and Morgan made some of Broadley's finest Pinot noirs in 2008.
