Coeur de Terre Pinot noir Renelle's Block 06
winery: Coeur de Terre
Coeur de Terre Pinot noir Renelle's Block 06 - The nose and texture are arresting. Aromas of toasty baking spice, vanilla and dark fruit lead into the caressingly silky body. The 06 Renelle's features a darker fruit profile than many of the 06 Pinots we've tasted recently, with cassis, black raspberry, and black cherry flavors mingling with creamy cocoa and earth, and a light citrus lift on the harmonious finish. Very yummy now, with the goods to cellar.
Winemaker Scott Neal describes the wine: Bright red color with ruby depth. A full toast oak greets the nose, offering vanilla, red raspberry, and dried cherry. In the mouth the richness offers more dried cherry, black cherry, soft dried lavender, light citrus, rose, and pomegranate. The finish lingers with delicate spice bouquet. Wood is present and integrates nicely with the complex aromatics Renelle’s Block offers.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY AVALON
The Renelle's Block Pinot opens with rich aromas of raspberries,
cherries, mixed peppercorns, pie spices, violets, and butterscotch-caramel notes. Wow--there's a lot going on! Complex flavors of red berries, sweet fresh cherries, and baked Italiam plums mingling with bramble notes. The tannins are there but beautifully
smooth, complemented by lively acidity that creates the structure for cellaring. Delicious with food now, stunning in years to come. The Neals' commitment to value is highly commendable. - Marcus
Just super, starting with a rich scent of fruit, an initial sense of juicy cherry and berry flavors, lots of sweet pie spice, white pepper, violets, vanilla, and a long complex finish. The tannins are there, beautifully smooth, supporting the intense fruit and complementing a lively acidity that sends you back for another sip. -jean

Previous Vintage (2004) Tasting Notes
At Oregon's recent "Indie Wine Festival", this wine stood out and called to us. It's exceptional. Raptor Ridge purchased fruit from this same Coeur de Terre Vineyard to make their 93 point (Wine Spectator) Raptor Ridge CdT Pinot noir 03.
This wine sneaks up on you. The dark cherry, blackberry and raspberry aromas mix with a little cinnamon spice and some barrel toast, but it whispers instead of shouts. The wine hits your mouth and besides the cherry, cassis, violet and a little spice on the palate, what you notice is how silky it is. The pretty cherry colors and delicate flavors show good concentration without being over extracted. This wine is well balanced and really opens up after awhile in your glass. The finish is long and smooth. This is a finesse Pinot Noir you should get to know. - M.S.
Coeur de Terre is primarily a Pinot Noir vineyard. The first Pinot Noir vines went into the ground in 1999 in the 2 ? acre Renelle's block [named after Scott's mother] with a mixture of half Pommard vines, a few Wadenswil clones and the balance with a mix of early ripening Dijon clone vines. The 4 ? acre Sara Jane's block [named after Lisa's great great grandmother who was a Chickasaw Indian healer] was planted 2001 with a mix of 25% Pommard, the rest Dijon clone Pinot Noir. The Abby's Block [named after their daughter] was planted in 2002 with half Pommard vines, a few Wadenswil and the balance in Dijon clone Pinot Noir. The Abby's Block vines went into some of the most ancient yellow soil unique to this property. A yet un-named Block 3 was planted in 2002 all 115 Dijon clone Pinot Noir with Block 6 was planted with Dijon clones 667 and 777 in 2005. All in all, fifteen of the twenty five plantable acres have been trellised and trained.
