It worked. In a matter of just a few short years, they have developed a comprehensive, hands-on knowledge of viticulture and enology. They do almost everything themselves, though they do bring in a small crew to help with harvest. The vineyard site is made up of gracefully undulating hillsides of a very diverse soil profile of both sedimentary and volcanic origins. The vineyard is nestled in a protective valley that allows just the right amount of heat for a slow and gentle ripening of the fruit while protecting the site from harsh coastal winds. The vineyard site shows incredible promise, and has quickly produced grapes that made outstanding quality wines. The owners use only organic farming techniques in managing the vineyard. The Coeur de Terre Pinots have also been selected for the Portland Indie Wine Festival two years in a row. Yet their prices remain fair; the Neal’s commitment to value is highly commendable.
