Corvidae Mirth Chardonnay 09

Winery: Owen Roe

Corvidae Wine Company's "Mirth" Chardonnay 09 -

Mirth means happiness and this wine is just that. 100% stainless steel fermented, this is a clean, vibrant Chardonnay. Flavors of golden delicious apples, Meyer lemon and just a hint of ripe tropical fruit marry together beautifully while a balanced acidity gives it a bright clean finish.

Pair this refreshing Chardonnay with a Chanterelle herb frittata, lemon roasted chicken, or a mango avocado and smoked salmon salad (yum!).

Mirth Chardonnay from Owen Roe satisfies cravings for a big, juicy hot weather Chardonnay. With the Mirth Chardonnay, Owen Roe continues its tradition of offering over-the-top quaffers at marvelous prices.

LA Times Wine of the Week, Sept 3, 2009:

A project of Oregon's Owen Roe Winery and offshoot Corvidae winery, Mirth Chardonnay is a rare commodity -- a moderately priced Chardonnay that drinks beautifully. The 2008 vintage, from Washington grapes, is clean and crisp and not over-oaked. Notes of apple and citrus coupled with a bright acidity give this less-than-$20 Chardonnay an appealing freshness and elegance.

It's a great Indian summer basic, easy drinking and perfect with pretty much anything light, from omelets and frittatas to seafood pasta or risotto dishes, seared sea scallops and fried calamari.

-- S. Irene Virbila, LA Times

"Corvidae" is named for the family of birds that includes crows and ravens. Crows have a long history in folklore and mythology. David was inspired to name the label Corvidae by the many crows that circle the sky over his winery in Yakima.

Each Corvidae wine is named with a particular fairy tale, fable, or legend in mind. "Rook" references the legendary luck associated with crows. "Lenore" is named for Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven". "Fable" is inspired by the story of the fox and the crow and its moral- "Beware of Flatterers". "Mirth" refers to an old nursery rhyme about magpies. More wines in the series will be named for other references to crows in folklore.
