Review:

Sheridan makes 2 Syrahs: Singularity (the ridiculously highly rated one) and Dark Matter. All estate fruit, this monster Syrah is filled with black berry, blueberry jam, toasty oak, and Asian spices. It's inky, plush, and ready to drink.

Crossfork Creek is Sheridan Vineyard's latest label, differing in its selection of grapes and style of wine. Scott uses the Crossfork label to try different winemaking methods and barrel styles. For example, the Dark Matter Syrah is made from grapes chosen specifically for the label, aged in part American oak. The Dark Matter is very limited.

Below, Scott and Karen Greer

The 2010 Dark Matter is Sheridan's estate-grown reserve Syrah, aged for 20 months in new French and American Oak barrels. It is a deep, rich purple that borders on black with an intriguing nose of allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and an array of dark fruits. It is a rich and powerful wine in the mouth with an amazing texture that showcases sweet blackberries and exotic spices that envelop your palate, giving way to a finish that just keeps going on and on. The Dark Matter will age beautifully for at least 15 years. - Scott Greer

2010 Wine Enthusiast - 93 points Crossfork Creek is a new label for Sheridan Vineyard, designed, says winemaker Scott Greer, as his laboratory for vinous experimentation. This meaty, smoky, dense and chewy Syrah is one of the first releases. The black cherry and cassis flavors are accented with a touch of cola, and the wine resolves with a firm, substantial and somewhat tannic finish. - P.G.
