Four Winds Chardonnay is crystalline and pure, showing soft herb and anise notes alongside gorgeous lime cream and minerals. Only 3 barrels (75 cases) made.

2011 vintage notes: In the glass the color is glowing straw with a slight green tint suggesting a vibrant and youthful wine. The aromatics lead with honey, mineral, pear, and a pronounced lemon and lime character. The palate reveals acidity and brightness and opens into subtle spice matched with stone and grass to frame the light and angular mouth feel. A touch of roasted nut and cream combine for a richness on the mid palate. Persistent acidity carries the wine through a lengthy and full finish. This is Crowley's second release of Chardonnay from the Four Winds Vineyard. - tasting note from the winemaker

Four Winds is the newest Chardonnay site that Crowley is working with. It fits the bill for Crowley's preference for higher elevation vineyards (850') resulting in lean and striking Chardonnay. Planted 21 years ago with the nation's first Chardonnay clone known as "Wente", this vineyard tends to ripen later which means the fruit retains acidity and develops mature flavor character. The vineyard is owned and managed by Jon Steinhardt.

2010 Vintage

This is Crowley's first release of Chardonnay sourced strictly from the Four Winds Vineyard. The vines are 20 year old Wente clones that yield austere, fresh, acid driven wines. The color is reminiscent of pale straw with a hint of green. Aromas include honey, lemon, lime and minerals. This wine has a hint of spice matched with stone and grass with a touch of roasted nut and cream. The acidity is persistent and balanced to yield an elegant Chardonnay with a lengthy finish.
