La Famiglia of Terra Vina
An Italian Family Connection Flavors These Oregon Wines
Terra Vina is a small family winery and vineyard owned by the Dinger family. Carole Dinger's Italian roots are woven through the Terra Vina story. Karl Dinger (Terra Vina's winemaker) found his passion for winemaking while he and Carole explored her ancestral home on vacation in Italy.
The Italian family tradition of working together and helping each other continues at Terra Vina. Three generations of Carole's Italian family traveled to the winery from locations across the country in 2006 to help with the first harvest of Terra Vina's Estate vineyard, called the Dalla Terra Vineyard.
Terra Vina's Italian connection crosses generations. Terra Vina's first estate wine, the La Famiglia Pinot noir 2006, was harvested on Carole's mother's 90th birthday. La Famiglia is the winery's best wine. It is a Pinot noir made from the first section of grapes planted in the vineyard, called the "Mother Block".
Terra Vina's Owen Roe Connection
Karl and Carole Dinger were friends and neighbors of Owen Roe's owners Jerry Owen and David O'Reilly well before Karl began making wine. Karl made wine as an amateur, winning numerous awards, before turning professional in 2004. Karl made his first commercial vintage at Owen Roe, and continues to make the Terra Vina (formerly Dalla Vina) wines at Owen Roe's Willamette Valley facility.

The Dalla Terra Vineyard
Terra Vina's estate vineyard, "Dalla Terra" was first planted in 1996. Dalla Terra is located at the southern end of Oregon's new Chehalem Mountains AVA. The Dalla Terra Vineyard is on Parrett Mountain, nestled among neighboring vineyards and wineries. The vineyard is underlain by the Wilamette Valley's famous "Pinot noir" soils, the Jory and Laurelwood soil types, layered over volcanic basalt. The vineyard contains 9 acres of several different clones of Pinot Noir, along with small plantings of Chardonnay, Reisling and Syrah.
Technical note: Terra Vina was formerly known as Dalla Vina
Terra Vina makes wines from grapes purchased in Oregon and Washington. In 2006, one wine was made from their estate vineyard, the Dalla Tera Vineyard. In 2007 and beyond, several wines will be released made from the estate vineyard's fruit.
