DiStefano Sogno Cabernet Franc 07

Sogno has long been a standout in value Cabernet Franc - the big score for the 2007 secures its status.

DiStefano's red wines, a Cab, Cab Reserve, and Cabernet Franc called Sogno, are big, rich, earthy wines with lots of Washington State's characteristic big fruit, leather, coffee and chocolate notes, and deep dense tannins, well integrated but best after 3-5 years of cellaring.

Wine Spectator: A supple, refined, elegant style, this offers delicate rose petal overtones to the dark berry and currant fruit that pushes through, lingering on the finish with finesse. Drink now through 2017. 580 cases made. - H.S.

Typically used as a Bordeaux varietal blending grape, Cabernet Franc can be just as expressive as its siblings while standing on its own. Sogno has been a hallmark of DiStefano Winery since 1997, and to this day it remains a “Sweetheart.”

2004 Vintage Tasting Notes

The 2004 Sogno has an exquisite aroma of raspberries and briar with sweet baked cherries and molasses, revealing hints of coco and vanilla with accents of dried herbs and green leaves. The palate is brimming with lots of ripe red berries, with some suggestions of spicy peppercorn and tobacco. Medium bodied with elegant but firm tannins and slightly toasted on the finish. - the winery

From blogwinecellars.com: As one might imagine the aromatics on this baby are quite expressive and Cabernet Franc is known to be far more perfumed than it's wild son Cabernet Sauvignon. The bouquet expressive amazing notes of rich dark chocolate truffle, dusty coco, blackberry, cherry, red currant, spice, cedar, and a touch of herb and peppercorn.

On the palate the wine is perfectly ripe and shows deep and savory blackberry flavors combined with chocolate truffle, coco powder, oak, and a touch of herb. I love the ripe and almost sweet tannins this wine exudes. While being deliciously savory and ripe the tannin is still firm and structured. Very nice wine that I would have guested to be Cabernet Sauvignon if tasted blind. The only thing that hints towards Cabernet Franc is the expressiveness of the bouquet and the herbal undertones. 91 Points - blogwinecellar.com
