Donedei Cabernet Sauvignon 05
“Donedei’s new Cabernet is very ripe, almost jammy, with cassis and berry fruit, along with some thick, slightly chalky tannins. Black olives, dry earth, a hint of dried leaves and some light mocha streaks add flavor interest as it winds through the mouth.” Paul Greggutt
Previous vintage 2003 tasting notes:
A dense, opaque, over-the-top rich wine in the style of Owen Sullivan (O-S) or Owen Roe. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Carolyn Lakewold makes tiny amounts of very rich and lush Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This wine is classic Cabernet, starting with an intense scent of black cherry, cassis, and violets. Flavors are of black raspberry, black cherry, plum, and jammy cassis fruit, with hints of toasted espresso bean, toasted cocoa bean, and hints of violets.
The Donedai Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with depth, densely packed with flavors and refined, silky tannins. It's still young, and will cellar for 4-8 years.
This is a most impressive wine, obviously carefully made and well structured. A most promising offering from a winemaker to be watched, it's just about the most full bodied Cabernet we've found from the 02 vintage in Washington State.
