Review:
You’ve probably not heard of Bruno. It was originally intended for restaurants in Portland, so the distributor could blow the sommeliers’ heads off with such a great price for a killer Oregon Pinot. We said to our rep – No way! We want some! So now you can buy the Pinot that sells as a “house wine” at Portland restaurants (for a lot less $ a glass).
The 2011 is one of those steals that will be gone around the time I get this writeup onto the website - a Pinot this good for under $15 does not come along but once in a very long time.
It's classic Evesham - red berries and fresh turned earth in the nose, more red fruit - raspberries and red cherries - in the flavor and a nice balanced finish that adds blackberry and fresh herbs to the mix. Everyone who works at the store grabbed a case or two for home and texted their friends about it. - Jean
2010 Vintage
The 2010 is first Bruno Pinot made by Evesham's new owner, Erin Nuccio (whose Haden Fig wines have become customer favorites). He offers a soft, red fruit melange of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. Bruno Pinots always put on a little weight in the bottle, so by the time the weather cools off enough to ship, this will be even better.
2009 Vintage Tasting Notes
If you haven't found Evesham Wood wines in the past (we are always trying to get a bigger allocation) here's a chance to try Russ Raney's Pinot noir at his lowest price.
If you are one of Evesham Woods' followers you'll be glad to know that the 2009 is up to Russ's usual high standards and this vintage has flavors that are very appealing - perfumed, juicy, and ready to drink.
Bruno is made especially for Casa Bruno, one of our favorite distributors.
2008 Vintage Tasting Notes
The Bruno Pinot noir 08 is sourced from several vineyards in the Salem, Oregon area, near Evesham Wood’s winery. Evesham Wood - one of those wineries in Oregon that sells out so fast, most people never hear about it. It's the unique combination of superb wines and the most modest prices in Oregon that make them a cult favorite.
Matt Kramer, the Oregonian, Sunday September 20, 2009: " This is as good a deal in really fine Oregon pinot noir from a terrific vintage as I've seen in years. Get it while you can." On July 16, Avalon called it THE best value in Oregon Pinot right now.
2007 Vintage Tasting Notes
Evesham Wood - one of those wineries in Oregon that sells out so fast, few people hear of it. Evesham Wood - It's the unique combination of superb wines and the most modest prices in Oregon that make them a cult favorite.
Winemaker Russ Raney made the 2007 Bruno Pinot noir for his Oregon distributor, only for the Oregon market! It's an outstanding value that blends freshness, bright acidity, and pure fruit.
The nose is all about bright raspberry and red cherry fruit, and the flavors follow up with more sweet red cherry and red raspberry flavors. There's a hint of pie spice, a hint of smoke, and just a lot of pleasant, easy drinking, fresh red fruit flavors. The finish is long and the tannins are silky and unobtrusive.
Russ makes a lighter, more classically Burgundian wine than most. The 2007 Bruno is far superior to its 2006 predecessor, and will age nicely over the next 2-4 years.
