BARGAIN! from Evesham Wood - Russ makes this Oregon Pinot noir for a few restaurants who use it as their "House Wine". Now it can be your "House Wine" as well. This is a young Pinot, and could use a bit of time decanted or cellared at least a few weeks before opening. That said, the nose is all about bright red cherry fruit, and the flavors follow up with more sweet red cherry and red raspberry flavors. There's a hint of pie spice, a hint of smoke, and just a lot of quite pleasant, easy drinking, sappy red fruit flavors. Russ makes a lighter style, more classically Burgundian wine than some, and this is mot a big black chery fruit bomb. However, for summer sipping, when an approachable red with a bit less intensity and more refreshing flavors is appealing, this is a great deal. One of the first 2006 Pinot noirs, this little wine shows what those in the know are whistering around the Willamette Valley- 2006 is going to be a super star vintage. |
