Review:
"Flat-out Great." - PinotFile.
Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. A very generous wine with vivid aromas of red berries and rose garden. More body and intensity than typical for Eyrie Pinot Noirs, featuring copious dark red berry and cherry fruit with a subtle note of oak, finishing dry with impressive length and show of black raspberry flavor. A special wine made in the Eyrie style but amplified, changing with every sip and showing impeccable balance. Flat-out great.

The vines used to make the Daphne Pinot noir are in a 1 1/2 acre block of Pommard clone Pinot noir, planted at the top of the Dundee Hills by John Schetky in 1974. One of the highest-elevation vineyards in Dundee at 860 feet, it only produces enough fruit for wine in occasional vintages.
From the winery: Daphne's rocky soils, high elevation and densely planted vines combine to create an intensely flavored expression of Pinot noir, simultaneously earthy and vibrant. Typically forming part of our Estate blend, in vintages 2001, 2008, and 2009 the excellence of the Daphne Vineyard barrels led us to declare it a single vineyard reserve and to bottle it separately. This very limited cuvee (1480 bottles) is dedicated to Daphne and John Schetky for their wise advice and enduring friendship over the years.
Wine Advocate 92 Points: Vivid ruby. Vibrant black raspberry and Asian spice aromas are underscored by minerals and a hint of potpourri. Fresh and precise, with lively strawberry and raspberry flavors, tangy underlying minerality and a silky texture. Soft tannins add shape to the spicy, floral finish. Very graceful pinot with an alluring, understated character and the balance to age.
2008 Vintage
Wine Advocate 94 points: The 2008 Pinot Noir Daphne Vineyard was sourced from a 1974 planting of 1.5 acres. Medium ruby in color, it sports an enticing nose of rose petal, spice box, incense, underbrush, cherry, and raspberry. Medium-bodied on the palate, it exhibits exceptional volume and concentration, already complex flavors, and several years of aging potential. It should see its 20th birthday in fine form. - Jay Miller
