Avalon Wine's tasting notes: Grochau Cellars' Syrah is a hearty, rich, meaty wine, full of blackberry and black raspberry. John's Syrah is Northern Rhone in style, showing excellent balance not always found in Pacific Northwest Syrah. He included 2% Viognier grapes in the wine, and the Viognier adds a wonderful floral intensity to the scent and a hint of exotic jasmine incense to the wine. This Syrah is a crowd-pleaser right now and will improve with a few years of cellaring.

John suggests food pairings: "With Syrah I think more steaky, perhaps with some roasted mushrooms and a red wine demi glace."

The Grochau Cellars Syrah 06 is made from grapes harvested from vineyards in the Rogue Valley of Oregon. Upper Five Vineyard, Meadowlark Hill Vineyard, and Paradox Vineyard supplied the fruit.
