MORE INFORMATION

Prior Vintage notes: Chehalem Mountain AVA, new release March 2006

VINEYARD Gary & Christine's Vineyard surrounds the Gypsy Dancer Estates winery in the Chehalem Mountains, Willamette Valley, Oregon. It was planted in 1995 to Dijon clones 114 and 115 and in 2003 to "suitcase" clones and Dijon clones 667 and 777 on south and east facing slopes. The vineyard is planted meter by meter, making it one of the most densely planted vineyards in Oregon. The Laurelwood soils are a unique combination of sedementary and volcanic matter. The vineyard was green-harvested prior to veraison to limit the yield to the two tons per acre.

WINEMAKING The grape clusters were hand-sorted in the field and again at the winery. A selection of whole clusters were deposited gently to the bottom of the fermentors with the crushed berries dumped over the top. The wine was cold-soaked for seven days prior to fermentation, which occurred in both neutral French oak and stainless steel tanks. Punched down up to six times per day, the wine remained in tank for a total of 24 days. The wine was racked by gravity directly to 100% new French oak and left to age.
