Review:
Cancilla Vineyard lies in the northern end of the Willamette Valley in the foothills of the Coast Range. This vineyard is a relatively cooler site allowing for full development of flavors while keeping alcohol moderate and preserving acidity. 6 barrels were selected for additional aging in the caves and bottled separately in February. The 2011 shows dusty earth, bright red cherry and dried mushroom. 146 cases produced.- the winery

93 Points Portland Monthly's 50 Top Oregon Wines.
The Cancilla Vineyard Pinot noir's beguiling and cerebral aromas make you want to pour a glass and smell it for hours. Dark red fruit, rosemary, and wet stones expand into a palate of dark berries, bright acidity and a picture-perfect finish of sweet licorice playing off white pepper.
The Cancilla is fun to drink now, especially over the course of a few days, but it will achieve another level of greatness when cellared for several years. Only 150 cases made for the world.
Erin describes the Cancilla: "The Cancilla is my favorite of the Haden Fig releases. I describe it as a pure Pinot with bright acids, dark berry fruit, blackberry, hints of saddle leather and mineral stoniness. The finish, I'd describe it as 'purity'. Tannins are light." "While approachable now, the Cancilla has real aging potential. I'm pretty excited about this wine. It could easily go for 10-15 years, maybe even 20."

Big talk, and very early in the game, but this is immediately a contender for top 20 Oregon '09 Pinots. Open it on day one and you'll be stoked...drink most of it on day two and you'll find the magic, as the aromas of mixed berry crisp and red licorice whisk you away. Fresh and juicy, sweet and supple, the finish builds depth and hangs around for a remarkably long time. This is one Pinot where it's hard for me to capture my enthusiasm in writing. Taste it you'll see why. (The Cancilla Vineyard replaces the "Reserve" Pinot). - Marcus
