Previous vintage notes: The 08 vintage has an expressive nose lifts this right out of the glass: spiced cherry, red plum, cinnamon, lavender and incense fills your senses. Satiny-textured dark cherry, plum and raspberry picks up a ribbon of fine tannins that elongates the finish and will allow this to age for another 4-6 years or more.

I know that adage "good things come to those who wait" aptly applies to wine, but I'm an impatient wine drinker. So I'm thankful that Eric Hamacher held his 2008 Pinot noir until now. While many of the 2008s are going into hibernation, Hamacher's 08 is coming out of the den to show off and prowl. - Marcus

2008 Wine Advocate - 92 points - The 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley was fermented with native yeasts and spent 18 months in 30% new oak. Medium crimson-colored, it exhibits a brooding bouquet of smoke, Asian spices, incense, rose petal, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a satin-textured vibrant, savory Pinot with incipient complexity, succulent black fruit flavors, excellent volume, and a lengthy, seamless finish. Give it 3-4 years to realize its full potential and drink it through 2023, perhaps longer. - Jay Miller

2008 Wine Spectator - 92 points - Taut and focused, wrapping its ripe currant and blueberry flavors in a veil of warm tannins, with the flavors taking off nicely as the meaty finish persists. Shows depth and distinction. Drink now through 2018. - H.S.

2007 Vintage

Hamacher Pinot noir offers pure scents of violets, berries, and graham in the glass. On the palate, it is sumptuous and silky. Sweet and field fresh blackberry and black raspberry flavors mingle with rich toasted hazelnut, vanilla, and violet perfume. A fat, sweet mid-palate of juicy berries adds body and fullness. The finish contributes well ripened tannins and hints of appealing cedar and oak toast. - Avalon

2007 Wine Advocate - 91 points - The 2007 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley was sourced from relatively old vines (25+ years). It offers up a fragrant perfume of toast, spice box, earth notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. On the palate it displays an elegant personality, medium body, savory flavors, a silky texture, and excellent depth. This impeccably balanced Pinot will provide pleasure through 2019. - Jay Miller

..."cool and beautifully complex nose of briar, dark berry fruit and a nuance of animale merges into barely medium weight flavors that possess impressive focus and detail on the pure and linear finish. This is not overly deep but I like the sophisticated mouth feel and it's possible that more complexity will arrive with a few years tucked away in the cellar. Drink 2009+" -- Burghound's Allen Meadows

Eric’s Pinot Noirs emphasize his credo of “elegance over power” and are sensuous wines with broad dark notes of earth and spice. On the palate, they are richly-textured with a lingering, satin finish. Each bears Eric’s signature winemaking style of soft tannins and near perfect balance. - the winery
