Helioterra WineWinemaker Anne Hubatch chose the name Helioterra for her wines. It symbolizes her sense of the connection between the sun and the land in making great wine. Helio comes from the name of Oregon's state gemstone, Heliolite, commonly known as Sun Stone and terra is the greek word for earth. Hence, Helioterra. A native of Wisconsin, Anne grew up loving the outdoors and spending time enjoying nature. It only seemed natural that she would earn a degree in Geology and Environmental Studies. After moving to Oregon, Anne began working with some outstanding winemakers including David Paige (Adelsheim Vineyard), Eric Hamacher (Hamacher Wines), Alfredo Apolloni (Apolloni Vineyards) and Joe Dobbes (Dobbes Family Estate/Wine by Joe). After studying winemaking at Chemeketa, she ventured out on her own. The grapes she uses are sourced from some of Oregon's top vineyards. Anne is passionate about quality and consistency and she is learning that she has to be flexible in order to adapt to whatever Mother Nature throws at her each year. This is her motto: Helioterra captures the vitality of the sun and fertility of the soil to create balanced, small batch wines with a lasting impression. |
