Holloran Le Pavillon Pinot noir 05 - It's rare for a Pinot to be both mysterious and welcoming at the same time, but Holloran Le Pavillon 05 hits it perfectly. Fresh blackberry and truffle aromas lead into a nicely weighted body of dark berries and cherries. The extra year in the bottle has rounded the edges--the Holloran just tastes so good right now, and will continue to age for years. Out of a case of high end, birthday-celebration wines, this was the biggest surprise, eliciting "wows" from the group.
