Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 03
$41.95/$37.76

92 points Wine Spectator: "Displays fresh plum and berry aromas, with undertones of mineral and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with refined tannins and a long finish. A solid wine for the vintage. Best after 2011. 1,580 cases made."

91 points Wine Advocate (Robert Parker): "The 2003 Barolo Bricco Boschis, a dark ruby, reveals a wild, brooding personality. It offers masses of dark fruit and grilled herbs in a full-bodied, idiosyncratic, somewhat animalistic style. It is a massively tannic, impressively structured Barolo that needs bottle age to settle down. While it may not have the elegance of the superb 2001, this quirky Barolo improved markedly in the glass and is likely to offer much pleasure for those who can be patient. It remains one of the better relative values in Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020."

"Cavallotto is one of the hidden gems of Piedmont. Based in Castiglione Falletto, this traditionally-minded estate continues to build on the success of past vintages with a very strong set of wines. This year’s releases include the 2003 Barolo Bricco Boschis and the 2001 Barolo Riservas, all of which merit careful consideration."

Ca del Baio Barbaresco Marcarini 05
$36.95/$33.26

Parker says: "The 2005 Barbaresco Marcarini reveals a darker profile than the Valgrande. A large scaled, generous Barbaresco, it possesses attractive dark fruit, menthol and spices with tons of plumpness and density. Anticipated maturity: 2010 - 2019."

Ca del Baio Barbaresco Valgrande 05
$32.95/$29.66

Ca del Baio Barbaresco Valgrande 05 - Aromatic roses, cinnamon and licorice-accented cherry shows itself as fresh and bright on the nose. Austere on the palate, with structured black cherry and berry that presents a darker profile than the 2004. The most traditionally-styled of Ca del Baio's Barbarescos, the 05 Valgrande will age gracefully for well over a decade.

Marco e Vittorio Adriano Barbaresco 05
$26.95/$24.25

Classic Nebbiolo, in a restrained, traditional style. Bright pie cherry, menthol, licorice, and cinnamon come together to form a balanced wine. The tannins are still a bit tight, but the right food - speck and mortadella, for example - makes this come alive. An outstanding value in Barbaresco. One of Oregon's best known wine country restaurants, Nick's Italian Cafe, pours this by the glass!

Cavatappi Nebbiolo Maddalena 02
$26.95/$24.25

Cavatappi Nebbiolo Maddalena is made from grapes harvested in Washington's Yakima Valley. Cavatappi is an Italian wine distributor in Seattle that also bottles a few wines under the Cavatappi label.
