J Albin Winery Pinot noir Laurelwood Vineyard 06 $29.95/$26.95

The Albin's 28 year old Laurelwood Vineyard, one of the oldest in the Willamette Valley, produces old vine Pinot noirs that show the qualities of complexity and depth that can only be acquired by time.

J Albin 2006 Laurel Vineyard Pinot noir is luscious. It's simultaneously refreshing and rich. Cinnamon-stick, sweet blackbery and juicy cherry leads into a creamy textured beauty, with fresh raspberry and earth on the velvety finish.

Scents of black cherry, black berry, milk chocolate, and black raspberry are reiterated in the flavors. One taster in our panel says: "chocolate!" and it's there, under the rich and vibrant berry fruit. There's a hint of fresh nutmeg in the finish. Quite lively and fresh tasting, this wine has not peaked, and offers a very enjoyable experience now, and for several more years.

J Albin Winery Blanc De Noir Sparkling Wine 05 $31.95/$28.75

J Albin Blanc De Noir Sparkling Wine 07 is quite a family affair. John and Lynn Albin use Methode Champenoise, the traditional way to make Champagne, they use Pinot Noir grapes, they use a fancy bottle with a fancy label, the wine is fantastic and could rival sparkling wines from anywhere in the world.

Their kids label "on demand" as they get orders of the super huge production (100 or so cases) in a sporadic delivery system. I guess what I am saying is that if you want it you should order it, as supply is kinda up to the teenagers' willingness to label this Oregon Gem.

"Oh, I will take a case of the J Albin Blanc De Noir Sparkling" -- "Sorry, we are waiting on the next batch to get labeled, the boys had a party to go to this weekend."

J Albin Winery Pinot gris 07 $15.95/$14.35

The luscious aromas, full fruit flavors along with the crisp acidity make for easy food pairing. Crisp and clean yet exceedingly smooth from extended Sur Lie aging. The palate is rich and silky with classic notes of white peach, pear and lemon zest. The finish is long, complex: reprising the honeyed melon fruit, candied lemon peel and apple. "Concentrated and fruit forward, yet balanced by natural crispness. Our style is fruit driven with firm acidity and elegance derived from barrel fermentation and extensive lees stirring." - John Albin
