Sequel 2005 $60.00/$54.00
New Release for November 2007
Velvet and full-bodied, John Duval's blackberry and dark fruit driven Syrah is more old world Bordeaux than Washington State "big red". It's about as far as you can get from a "typical" Australian Syrah, with balanced but restrained fruit, mineral notes, youthful, fine-grained but quite present tannins, and the promise of greatness with time and careful cellaring.

Blackberry, toasted espresso bean, roasted meat, cinnamon spice, and white flowers show in the nose as an initial impression. Blackberry, black raspberry, and black currant fruit hold the center of a wine framed by fruit and oak derived tannins that smooth out and integrate with aeration. Decant for an hour or two if drinking this wine in the next year, or cellar to allow its potential complexity to develop.

Sequel 2004 $55.00/$49.50
Parker 93, Wine Spectator 92
This second vintage of Sequel is darkly-hued with cherry and cassis aromas to match. It is a focused Syrah loaded with black fruit, spice and a hint of vanilla across a supple frame. Give it time in the glass to fully reveal the wine’s layers of fruit and concentration.

Wine Advocate (Parker) 93 Points: "Purple / black in color, this superb Syrah offers grilled meat, bacon fat, game and wild blueberry aromas and flavors. On the palate the wine is spicy, layered, and plush with soft tannins and enough acidity to hold things together. " - September 2007

Saggi 2005 wine labelSaggi 2005 $51.00
Saggi means "Wisdom" and is tne name chosen by famed Itaian winemaking father and son Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari for their Washington State version of a Super-Tuscan red, produced in partnership with Allen Shoup's LongShadows Winery in Walla Walla. This vintage is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah from the Columbia Valley.

A hint of sweetness introduces flavors of red raspberry and red cherry, accented by spiciness and a streak of white pepper in the finish. Fruit flavors dominate when first tasted, then darker notes of the fine-grained youthful tannins take over. A floral component accompanies the predominant raspberry fruit scents at first, then toasty oak and caramelized sugar scents mark this as a wine aged in new, toasty oak.
