Review: 2010 Vintage Tasting Notes 2010 Tanzer - 91 points - Bright red. Complex bouquet of red berry preserves, potpourri and Asian spices, with a hint of cola. Juicy, penetrating and precise, offering energetic raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. Closes spicy and long, with resonating floral character and impressive length. - J.R. All four Pinot noir clones planted at Luminous Hills are in the 2010...Pommard, 115, 667, and 777. The winemaker feels that its the broadest and clearest expression of the "big picture story" that Luminous Hills has to say. Wine Press Northwest (April 2012) - "Outstanding! The grapes for this remarkable Pinot noir come from the estate vineyard in a high-elevation site in Yamhill-Carlton. It opens with aromas of saddle leather, a whisper of smoke, mint, mocha, tobacco leaves and dried blackberries, followed by flavors of black olives, dark chocolate, black raspberries, elderberries and a nice cigar. It's a mouth-filling wine backed with bright acidity and moderate tannins." 2009 Vintage Tasting Notes 2009 Wine Spectator - 91 points - Velvety and subtle, with mint and savory spice accents around a lovely bead of red currant and raspberry fruit, persisting delicately on the long finish. Drink now through 2019. 357 cases made. - H.S. 2008 Vintage Tasting Notes 2008 Wine Spectator - 90 points - Polished and refined, an elegantly articulated range of cherry, raspberry, balsa and spice flavors coming together on the juicy, airy finish. Drink now through 2014. 142 cases made. - H.S. A blend of high-toned fruit characteristics derived from the 667 Pinot Noir clone planted on higher elevation volcanic soils, along with the spicy, fatter, and darker notes from the 115 and Pommard clones planted on sedimentary soils on the lover elevations of Luminous Hills. Spicy nose with pronounced dark tones. Plum-pepper notes, lots of youthful flamboyance, but good depth. Nicely detailed with impressive complexity. Acid is woven in nicely, but the finish is electric and very drawn-out, quite purple and again very floral. |
