2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

2009 Wine Advocate - 90 points - The white wines begin with the 2009 Au Contraire Chardonnay sourced from Martinez’s French Creek Vineyard which contains a 9-acre block of 30 year old Wente Clone Chardonnay. It was fermented in seasoned French oak (50%) and stainless steel (50%) where it remained sur lie with regular batonnage for 7 months. Twenty percent of the wine went through malolactic. It displays floral notes, apple, white peach, and pear aromas. On the palate mineral and savory elements emerge buttressed by lively acidity, This is a restrained, elegant style of Chardonnay reminiscent of a Premier Cru Chablis."

From the winery -

The wine displays delicate aromas of Granny Smith apple, cherry blossoms, white peach and fresh linen. There is great mid-palate weight with flavors of ripe pear, citrus, minerals, balanced acidity and a long persistent finish. Try this wine with seafood, poultry, soft or fully ripened cheeses and sushi.
