Wine Advocate 94 points: "Also brilliant and offering uncommon levels of finesse and elegance, the 2011 Syrah Liberte Boushey Vineyard saw 25% whole cluster inclusion during fermentation and 13 months in puncheons prior to bottling. Sporting a vivid, semi-opaque ruby/purple color, it delivers notions of creamy raspberry, liquid flowers and pepper to go with a core of raspberry and blackberry liqueur-like fruit. Medium-bodied, seamless and beautifully polished, yet also with solid concentration and depth, this impressive Syrah should be given 2-3 years in the cellar and then enjoyed over the following 5-7 years. Drink 2017-2023." - Jeb Dunnuck

Previous vintage notes: Aromas include violets, chocolate, pomegranate, and orange peel zest swirling with black currant and blueberries.

2009 Wine Spectator - 92 points - Polished, vibrant and generous with its juicy blackberry, blueberry, plum and spice flavors, leading to a tangy edge that lifts the finish. Stylish, graceful and worth cellaring. Drink now through 2019. 196 cases made. - H.S.

2009 Wine Advocate - 92 points - The 2009 Liberte Syrah is 100% Syrah from the Boushey Vineyard aged in 20% new oak for 10 months. A brooding bouquet of balsam wood, smoked meat, hung game, exotic spices, lavender, and blueberry inform the nose of a dense, rich, concentrated, lively Syrah with a firm acid structure, impeccable balance, and a lengthy, pure finish. Give this satin-textured, plush wine 3- years of cellaring and drink it through 2024 if not longer. Maison Bleue Family Winery might have been the most compelling new producer uncovered in my 2010 trip to Washington. Former dentist Jon Martinez has become a full-time vigneron; he is the owner and grower of French Creek Vineyard near Prosser and two years ago he purchased 21 acres in Yakima Valley. All of the wines (with one exception) are produced from individual vineyards and the reds are bottled without fining or filtration. - Jay Miller

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

2008 Wine Advocate - 93 points - The 2008 Liberte Syrah (100%) was sourced from the Boushey Vineyard and aged for 10 months in 30% new French oak. Purple/black in color, it sports an alluring bouquet of lilacs, pomegranate, rose petal, and blueberry. On the palate it is medium-bodied, smooth-textured, and succulent. This elegant, lengthy offering will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring and will offer a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2023."

From the winery -

A gorgeous nose of violets, rose petals, tar and pomegranate are all beautifully focused around an abundance of blueberries and black currant. The mouth feel is very dense yet sleek, elegant and refined, with a finish that keeps pushing forth layers of many nuances. The perfect balance of fruit, acidity and tannins makes this wine very approachable now, but will gain complexity with age. Pair this wine with lamb, wild game, beef, hearty stews and hard savory cheeses. 100% Syrah.
