There are Oregon Chardonnays that are as good as Richard's Cuvée, but there are none that are better. We felt that way when we tasted the first vintage (2010); each vintage has been progressively, stupefyingly better. There's a wonderful transparency and openness to the aromas - what you sniff is what you'll taste. It balances my favorite components - mouthwatering citrus (lemon, kaffir lime, and tangerine), golden orchard fruits, delicate floral highlights, persistent minerality, perfect balance. -Marcus

2011 vintage notes: Utterly brilliant. Last year's Richard's was the best received Oregon Chard of the year. The new 2011 is a better wine - better richness and weight with awesome clarity and precision to the lemon-lime flavors. It fleshes out with pear, cream, hazelnut and mineral on a finish that's both crisp and long. It's our favorite Chardonnay of the vintage so far. This will be at its best with a couple years of age so if you are drinking now, decanting is the way to go (we did). Did I mention utterly brilliant? Just 50 cases made. - Marcus

2010 Vintage

It only makes sense that one of my favorite Pinot producers would also make a dynamite Chardonnay. There's great fruit here -lemon curd syncs with green apple - and a mineral/acid spine adding ideal balance. Only 56 cases made, from Whistling Ridge Vineyard. - Marcus (Looze, that is)

The winemaker describes it as "lemon cream fruit under a woodsy note, and pure mineral in the back." This Chard is sourced from the Whistling Ridge vineyard which is considered to be one of the best white wine sites in the Willamette Valley.
