Matello Lazarus Pinot noir 2010Review: I taste a ton of Oregon Pinot and in my opinion, this is the best value Oregon Pinot on the market right now. There is so much packed into this wine: beautifully vivid flavors, surprising density and persistence, perfect balance. Seriously, if this is Matello's Willamette Valley blend, his 2010 reserves must be scary! Back up the truck and load up. - Marcus Ready to drink, big and easy style benefits from winemaker Marcus Goodfellow's skill at creating a balanced Pinot with acidity and complexity to stand out. The 2009 received 91 points from Wine Advocate. 2009 Vintage Tasting Notes The 2009 Pinot Noir Lazarus saw no new oak but was made with 35% whole clusters. Cedar, cinnamon, brown sugar, cherry cola, and raspberry aromas inform the nose of a moderately structured, savory wine that is likely to evolve for 1-2 years and will provide optimum drinking from 2012 to 2019. - Jay Miller The first 2009 Pinot from Marcus Goodfellow, ready to drink, big and easy style benefits from Marcus's skill at creating a balanced Pinot with acidity and complexity to stand out. The Lazarus cuvee is a blend of 17 barrels from 3 of our vineyards: Whistling Ridge, Winter’s Hill, and Bishop Creek. Average vine age is 20 years old, and all three vineyards are dry farmed vineyards (of which 2 are certified LIVE). This cuvee highlights the pretty fruit, and forward character of the vintage. Friendly, forward, and precocious, the 2009 Lazarus will develop well for the next 5-10 years. - the winery
