2003 Vintage Tasting Notes
Scents of perfumed, plummy, black cherry fruit, big cherry, blackberry, and spice flavors, this wine has a backbone of fine grained tannins. As of January 2005, at release, it's a bit tight, and will benefit from a few months of cellaring before first drinking. Excellent acid/tannin balance, allowing cellaring for 3-5 years. Hillside Vineyard is one of the Columbia Gorge Appellation's best known vineyards.
From the winery: "Hints of dark cherry, wrapped with a touch of leather and smoke on a lingering, spicy finish."
The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract intensity and color from the fruit. The cap was hand punched down twice a day during the 11 days of fermentation with a maximum temperature of 90 degrees. The wine was aged in a combination of new and used oak for 11 months.
