Northwest Vine Project (NWVP) offers a handful of under $20 red and white wines made by highly regarded winemakers in the Pacific Northwest. David O'Reilly of Owen Roe, Syncline's James and Poppie Mantone, and Andrew Rich Wine's Andrew Rich made the current portfolio. These are excellent values in everyday wine. While specific wines come and go, and the winemakers may change with new vintages, the wines are basically: NWVP Red Splendor, Columbia Valley - The flagship of NWVP! This is a brilliant, bombastic, complex Rhone blend put together for us by Andrew Rich. The major player here is the Columbia Valley soil, which gives both minerality and muscular backbone to this fruit-driven, full- bodied red. NWVP Chardonnay, Yamhill-Carlton - Sourced from the Elvenglade vineyard the Yamhill-Carlton District, the wine was raised in steel tank to maintain pure varietal fruit character and freshness. NWVP Pinot Gris, Oregon - A blend of Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon sites produce a beautiful balance between crisp apple and pear character with more lush tropical flavors and a supple body. Raised in stainless steel to maintain pure varietal fruit character and freshness. NWVP Riesling, Willamette Valley - Sourced from the Hyland Vineyard in McMinnville from vines planted in 1971. Elegant and complex with a soft, supple sweetness balanced by lively acidity. Raised in stainless steel to maintain pure varietal fruit character and freshness. NWVP Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley - Blended from sites throughout the Willamette Valley and raised in stainless steel to maintain pure varietal fruit character and freshness with about a quarter new French oak for greater complexity and structure. This is a medium-bodied Pinot Noir intended for universal appeal and food friendliness. NWVP Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley - Sourced from the Goose Ridge Estate Vineyard in Eastern Washington's sun-drenched Columbia Valley. Sheltered from Seattle's maritime climate by the towering Cascade Mountain Range, the vineyard receives less than 8 inches of rainfall annually. It is a gently sloped, south-facing site adjacent to Red Mountain. Long, warm summer days and cool nights produce grapes noted for their ripe, rich character.
