O'Reilly's Pinot noir 08
O'Reilly's Pinot noir 08 - last call, October 28 - it's almost gone, and one of the best value 2008 Oregon Pinots you'll find.
Raspberry, loganberry, strawberry - juicy and fresh. Very subtle cinnamon stick accents carry through on the finish. Excellent weight and a broad, silky texture make this THE deal in Oregon Pinot noir, every year.
Run, do not walk to buy this wine. It's incredible, and the total production was only 25% of last year.
"Deep ruby color. Amazing nose of crushed berries with a lovely roseate accent and some subtle oak toast in the background. Light in style and soft in texture with more restrained acidity than the 2007 version. Earth and oak notes in the background augment the berry flavors. A little lacking in the short finish, but overall this is a very pleasant drink for the tariff." - Rusty Gaffney, Prince of Pinot (Pinotphile)

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes
O'Reilly's Pinot noir is the most popular value Oregon Pinot noir we sell. Every year the wine's drinkability and price offer the highest quality and value.
O'Reilly's is the "good value" label of David O'Reilly, winemaker and co-owner of Owen Roe Winery. "Good value" O'Reilly's wines are made from juice that does not quite fit the recipe for the spectacular Owen Roe wines, and are very reasonably priced. One of the most "blogged" about Oregon Pinots, there are raves for O'Reilly's Pinot noir all over the internet.
O'Reilly's Pinot noir 07 is a super value. For O'Reilly's fans, go directly to the order button. For those who are new to O'Reilly's Pinot noir, here's what to expect. Elegant and lighter-bodied than the 2006, with bright red berries, purple flowers and earth in the aromas. Vibrant and juicy flavors of raspberry, cranberry, and hints of cherry. It gains depth towards the finish, with brambly dark berries and subtle tinges of dried herbs. A beautiful food wine, and a ridiculous value as always. Buy an extra case and leave it in a dark corner in the cellar--you'll love how it ages over the next few years.
Portland's Oregonian said this about the O'Reilly's Pinot noir: "The 2006 O'Reilly's is subtle, full of finesse and yet still a powerhouse of a wine. This Pinot Noir has characteristics not typically found in this varietal. It's a full-bodied wine with notes of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry followed with spicy undertones. Blended from two different vineyards, the Northern Eola Hills provides the berry overtones whereas the Yamhill vineyard bestows its weighty texture. This wine has good tannin structure with a medium-long dry finish. It's a great value for a Pinot so if you can find it, buy it! "
David O'Reilly, owner of Owen Roe and O'Reilly's wineries. recently talked about the O'Reillys Pinot noir:
"Each year when asked which is my favorite wine of the vintage I unhesitatingly blurt out that the O'Reilly's Pinot Noir wins hands down. Simply because it's almost impossible to find a Pinot Noir from anywhere with this much character at this price."
"The fruit is farmed identically to the Owen Roe single vineyard offerings and many blocks end up in the O'Reilly's blend simply because they do not fit in the style of Owen Roe. As a result, the O'Reilly's is an incredible bargain even at twice the price. "
"In this year's version I blended small vineyards from around the Northern Willamette Valley: Northern Eola Hills which has beautiful raspberry overtones with has predominately Jory soils. Yamhill/Carlton this new appellation was established to focus on the unique Willakenzie soils in the hills West of Newberg. The wines from this area possess plenty of weighty texture and the fruit flavors tend towards dark plum and coffee."
2006 Vintage tasting Notes
O'Reilly's 2006 Pinot noir is possibly Oregon's most popular under $20 Pinot noir. It is surely one of the best.
David O'Reilly, winemaker for O'Reilly's and parent winery Owen Roe, has the following to say about the 2006 vintage O'Reilly's:
In the 2006 O'Reilly's Pinot noir I blended small vineyards from around the Northern Willamette Valley: Northern Eola Hills which has beautiful raspberry overtones with has predominately Jory soils. Yamhill/Carlton this new appellation was established to focus on the unique Willakenzie soils in the hills West of Newberg. The 2006 vintage was another in a string of great vintages establishing Oregon as the premier Pinot Noir area in the U.S. We had plenty of late spring heat and the unusually warm summer ripened the grapes with very ripe flavors.
2005 Vintage Tasting Notes
Winemaker David O'Reilly says: "this is unequivocably my favorite O'Reilly's since I started making it in 1997. I loved the '98 and the '01, but this wine beats them all."David describes the wine as "unctuous, fruity, and full bodied - an indicator of the 2005 vintage. The wine is fruit forward with a beautiful acidity, a wine that people could stock up on and put away for everyday drinking for the next 5-6 years."
The wine opens
with a lovely nose of dried lavender, rose petals, and crushed red
fruit, with a slight gamey edge. On the palate it's red cherry and
and raspberry, with strawberry notes that carry through to the finish.
Soft tannins and mellow spice combine with good acidity to make this a
superb value.
2004 Vintage Tasting Notes PinotFile says about the 2004 vintage: "2004 O'Reilly's Oregon Pinot Noir $15. Winemaker David O'Reilly of Owen Roe is known to make a number of sumptuous Pinot Noirs in his short history. The O'Reilly Pinot is from selected barrels that have a more forward and juicy character perfect for immediate consumption. The wine shows off a generous amount of red and black fruit that is ripe and youthful. Still a Lolita, it could benefit from a few months in the bottle, but summer is here now, so why wait?" "Many wine cognizants believe this is the best Pinot Noir deal in the US. The Human Torch would love this smokin' deal."
