Review:
Outstanding, age-worthy Pinot noir. This has the 08 profile I love: licorice and white pepper-accented black cherry, with juicy acidity and subtle crushed herbs on the finish. - Marcus
Omero's 08 Pinot was a clear standout among the 100 wines at the recent Chehalem Mtn. trade tasting. Frankly, I expected the wine to be more expensive, especially since it comes from Chehalem's Corral Creek Vineyard, planted in 1983. Only 10 cases available - that's 20% of Omero's whole production!
Grilled Copper River salmon with a sweet Asian-inspired glaze pairs well with the Omero Pinot noir 08. Hoisin lets the acid of the wine cut trhogh the sweet, earthy sauce. Another pairing emphasizes David's placement of the wine in Joel Palmer House, a restaurant known for its wild mushroom based cuisine. David finds the Omero 08 is especially well suited to earthy, mushroom based sauces over lighter flavored meats like lamb and pork.
David describes his wine as having flavors of alpine strawberries and Christmas spice.
The Corral Creek Vineyard is Chehalem Winery's Estate Vineyard and one of the top vineyards in the state. It was planted in 1983, and its famous old vine fruit is rarely sold to other wineries.
The 2008 Omero Pinot noir was made by Sarah Cabot, who at the time was assistant winemaker at Belle Pente. She made the wine at the Belle Pente facility. 50 cases were produced.
