Review: A December Avalon Wine Club selection - 96 cases made. I haven't been able to get this wine out of my head since I tasted it last week. It left an indelible, Pinot noir-colored mark on my mind. Combined with the price - $26! - Omero Willamette Valley Pinot noir 09 earned a spot in my top 20 2009 Oregon Pinots. I love when a wine catches me off guard. In the middle of a hectic day, someone pours a glass for me to taste and often my focus is right back on the previous project within ten seconds. Not when David Moore poured his Omero Pinot 09 for me. I allowed time to stand still, giving the Pinot my full attention - it commanded it. I was awestruck at the beauty of the Omero, first the stunning red fruit and floral perfume, then the totally seamless, silky red and black cherry that enveloped my palate. Dashes of wild strawberry and spice came in on the finish, gaining oomph and hanging on with that mesmerizing Pinot sweetness. It's perfectly integrated, having spent a whopping 18 months in barrel, with one of the four barrels being new. And to further geek out, it is a blend of the two classic Oregon Pinot clones: Pommard and Wadenswil, from a single vineyard on Ribbon Ridge (Utopia). Yes, all this in a $26 Pinot. - Marcus Followup to Omero's Corral Creek Pinot noir 2008 and continues the tradition of quality above and beyond the price. Made by Sarah Cabot, formerly assistance winemaker at Belle Pente.
