Vineyard manager and co-owner David Moore comes from a restaurant background, working for several Seattle and Las Vegas restaurants before moving to Oregon. While in Seattle, he met Sarah Cabot and they became interested in Oregon wine. Sarah studied at the Northwest Wine Academy, and on a propitious visit to wine country, she got a job at Belle Pente. She and David moved to Oregon, Sarah to make wine and David to manage his family's vineyard. David's parents, Bill and Staci Moore, grew up in Oregon and returned home in 2005. The family purchased their estate vineyard on Ribbon Ridge in 2006 and planted it in 2007. The vineyard is perched high on the ridge, with one of the most beautiful views in the area. The lot is perfectly situated for Pinot noir - we're excited to taste the first vintage from the Estate grapes next year.
Sarah Cabot (photo at right) is Omero's winemaker. In 2008, she was assistant winemaker at Belle Pente, and used their facility to make Omero's 50 cases (a scant two barrels.). She worked with Belle Pente owner and winemaker Brian O'Donnell, and you can sense his influence in the wine. He ages his Pinot noirs for a longer time than most wineries, 18 months or more, and only in oak barrels that have been used before, to lessen the flavors obtained from the wood. He wants the flavor of the grapes to predominate, not the flavors of oak. The Omero Pinot was made with the same philosophy - tasting the wines from Belle Pente and Omero, the Omero stands strong against Brian's wines - and that's a high compliment to Sarah. |
