MORE INFORMATION
Starred * wines are sold out except in this case Evening Land Vineyards Wine Spectator: Refined, elegant, focused and complex, piling layer upon layer of subtle flavors onto a racy, deftly balanced frame. Blackberry, currant and mineral notes compete for attention and mingle harmoniously on the long, expressive finish. Best from 2012 through 2020.- H.S.
Penner Ash Wine Spectator - "Light on its feet, with gorgeous currant, plum and wet stone aromas and flavors that remain expressive and intense without any apparent weight. Tannins are beautifully integrated, while the finish goes on and on. Drink now through 2020. From Oregon." - H.S.
Sineann Wine Spectator: Broad and ripe, a lithe style that delivers rich plum and dried blueberry flavors, along with hints of black pepper and exotic spices as the finish picks up steam against refined tannins. Best from 2011 through 2020. From Oregon. - H.S. Arterberry Maresh
Wine Advocate - Even better is the 2008 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard, sourced from 40-year-old vines. Dense ruby red in color, it offers up a sensual perfume suggesting that much more is to come. Asian spices, incense, rose petal, black cherry, and black raspberry aromas lead to a loaded, focused, and impeccably balanced, seamless Pinot with 6-8 years of aging potential. It's all there, but for best results, patience is required.
Arterberry Maresh Pinots are seamless and silky - the 2008 is bursting with succulent, mouthwatering, layered cherries, wild strawberries, with orange oil, cedar spice, brown sugar, black tea and huckleberry appearing on the finish. Tremendous Pinot sweetness gushes towards the end, ideally balanced by the 2008 dream-vintage acidity. A veil of super-fine tannins helps the finish resound.
9 barrels were made (224 cases), mostly twice-filled barrels, aged for 16 months. Harvested October 26-30, the incredibly low yields - less than 1 ton/acre - ripened to perfection during cold, sunny days. The oldest blocks of Maresh Vineyard - the fifth oldest in the Willamette Valley - are in this wine. Vine age ranges from 1970 to 1991. Ken Wright Cellars Wine Spectator: Light in weight and texture, with complex, mineral-accented blackberry, red cherry, whole grain and spice flavors that flow easily into the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2018. - H.S. *White Rose Estate Wine Advocate: The 2008 Pinot Noir Dragon's Bluff Hand Select was made with 50% whole clusters from a selection made in the vineyard. Exceptionally complex aromatically with an array of floral, spice, and black fruit aromas, on the palate it is mouth-filling, dense, yet remarkably elegant. Give this concentrated, lengthy Pinot another 5-6 years of cellaring and drink it through 2023, although that could be a conservative estimate. - Jay Miller Witness Tree Wine Spectator: Lithe, silky and gorgeously proportioned, this plays out its floral and spice-accented cherry, cassis and mineral flavors gracefully, with harmony and depth to spare. Drink now through 2020. H.S. Black Cap from Eyrie Vineyards Wine Advocate: The 2008 Pinot Noir Black Cap Reserve is an equal parts blend of Bishop's Creek and Estate fruit. It displays an arresting nose of Asian spices, incense, floral notes, underbrush, black cherry, and black raspberry. Already complex on the palate, it possesses outstanding volume, concentration, and an overall elegant personality. It, too, should have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023, perhaps longer. *Eyrie Vineyards The 2008 Pinot Noir Daphne Vineyard was sourced from a 1974 planting of 1.5 acres. Medium ruby in color, it sports an enticing nose of rose petal, spice box, incense, underbrush, cherry, and raspberry. Medium-bodied on the palate, it exhibits exceptional volume and concentration, already complex flavors, and several years of aging potential. It should see its 20th birthday in fine form. *Thomas John Thomas makes a very small amount of Estate Pinot noir from his vineyard in the Dundee Hills. Thomas Pinot noir is arguably the hardest to get Oregon wine. *Dusky Goose Full-bodied, yet sumptuously complex, the 2004 Dusky Goose Pinot noir wine has its characteristic candied fruit and dried cherry notes, along with glorious layers of lush black cherries and berries, and hints of dried lavender, dried orange zest, and a high note in both nose and flavor of intensely sweet and concentrated dried fruit. The balance is so good, the wine should cellar well for more than ten years. *Bergstrom Winery Always a myriad of fruits and spices come to mind when putting this wine to nose and it is often hard to pin down exactly what we are sometimes smelling, the bouquet is so intense. Anise, pepper, incense, and pepper-minty black fruits like dark cherry, cassis and marionberry come to mind again and again. The mouth-feel in a young de Lancellotti wine is poignant and juicy focusing on the great natural acidity this vineyard is blessed with and showcasing the rich dark fruits these sandy soils are known for.
As the wine ages, the opulence will begin to shine through offering a hedonistic glimpse at why Willakenzie soils and Pinot Noir can often times be likened to the Cote de Nuits in Burgundy, yet bigger!
